Digital Key for Samsung S21 Ultra in Australia

Hi All,

Does anyone know if there is any plan from BMW to activate the Samsung S21 Ultra as an eligible phone for digital key? This phone can be used as a digital key in some countries but not in Australia. So I think it has the required hardware, it just needs to be enabled by software update, I suppose.

If not, I might need to change the phone.

I am taking delivery in the next couple of weeks, so can't prove this theory yet, but after my research, the phone hardware is all there, the key so to speak as I understand is Android Version 12.

My Samsung S20 Note just updated in the last two weeks to Android Version 12, so I am desperate to try this out when the car arrives.

However, when you want to set up the key in My BMW you will receive an error message stating the device in not compatible.

SAMSUNG S21 variations are the only Samsung devices working with BMW digital key in some countries, excluding Australia.

Atm, the only android mobiles working with the key in Australia are google pixel and google pixel pro.

I ordered the S22 Ultra today. Hope this works. If the S21 does, the 33 should, at least I hope.

Samsung deal was amazing today if anyone is thinking of it. $480 trade in plus $450 extra bonus trade in. Just over $1000 for a S22 Ultra, a great deal.

Will report how it goes when I get me car and new phone.

S21 doesn't work in Australia.

Just a guess, but there are two CPUs available in these phones depending on the region (Exynos or Snapdragon), it's possible the compatibility is tied to one of those CPUs.

Think you are spot on. The S23 is using only one chip worldwide so hopefully this will fix it.

The display key was an option for me when I ordered my g82! It’s quite nice… and the digital key works fine on an iPhone and Apple Watch! Extremely happy…

Nice. My previous F90 had it and the current one has remote engine start so missed out.
