Minding my business a Tesla Model 3 creeps up behind me. On 5 lane sweeping hwy passed me kinda close on driver side. Tesla all tinted out; no tints on my M3 de-baged 100% stock.

Sport + I roll into in 5Th and catch up pretty quick.

He jumps left I jump right down shift to 3rd

He was actually next to me for a split second…

Bye bye he/it was trying… just pulled away then he gave up.

I don't condone Mexico business and I'm usually very good about not engaging; but I hate cocky tinted windowed Tesla…

I was at the light with one (a 3 with the dual motor) we both went for it and I "beat him". He was an older gentleman and at the next light rolled down his window telling me nice car, one of the few he knows that can beat him lol

0-60 in 3.1 or 3.2 for the Tesla Model 3.

Unless you’ve got xDrive or lots of dough in mods in your M3/4 you won’t win the typical spontaneous urban/suburban drag race.

Totally agree that the Model 3 loses steam around 90-100. And it does look like refrigerator.

In some ways I will miss my Model 3. For instance, with all wheel drive it is fun to drive 365 days a year.

But I am jonesing for an M4 xDrive. In line for an allocation.

100% I would lose zero to 60. My car is 6MT.

Maybe it's where I live. For me "ZERO" opportunity to stop light race. To many intersections with crossing traffic. Plenty of law enforcement. Nothing stopping opposing traffic from crossing to make a left turn in front of you.

60 MPH would be hauling @$$ in the suburban area where I live. More than likely you end up going past 60 to 65 or 70

I 100% agree but had to break the rule to teach an X7 w/ Perf parts a lesson. Minding my own business and he see me and starts tailgating me like crazy.....following my lane changes...the whole stupid bit. We come to a light and he whips around next to me (nearly hitting me). Light turns green and I gradually accelerate ahead. He matches me then purposely starts drifting closer to me. SO I drop a gear and say bye, bye. He tried to stay with me but eventually gave up. Sometimes other Bimmer owners are actually the biggest douches. There's a reason we have a bad rep.

Anyway, back to the Tesla stories......sorry for the tangent.

I think the standard metric that's been pushed is 0-100kph... which roughly translates to 0-60 if we wanna keep nice, clean whole numbers.

But practically speaking I agree it's stupid. It's traction limited. Something like 30-50 and 50-70 would be more telling of acceleration. And if we do standing starts, 1/4 mile along with trap speed is a good metric.

Any tesla besides plaids and even some of the "older Pxx" teslas have terrible top end.

Had you run into any tesla from a stop, then they'll be saying bye bye to you til about 70 or 80. In which case he can let off and claim victory.

I love my model 3. It's always fun to put performance cars in their place during my commute. I don't even try on the highway though. At least not until i get my plaid

The vast majority of drivers the US only really get to do hard stoplight runs here and there. Usually 60mph isn't "go to jail" territory whereas a 60-130 run just might be depending on your state.

So, while it is a bit of an old way to measure performance it's the one that the vast, vast majority of drivers will actually use themselves and therefore can clearly understand.
