I feel you. ID8 by itself won't be a deal breaker for me. But that, with price increases, rate increases, any missing equipment, month after month with no allocation, getting treated like dogsh!t by CAs (don't get me wrong, I've encountered good ones too), getting told I had an allocation and then BMW supposedly taking it away, likely delays upon delays upon delays if or when this car goes into production, being told 5 different things from 5 different people because nobody, probably not even the guys at the top know what's going on..if I don't get an allocation soon, I'm ready to tap out and come back when things are back to semi-normal. There are people who don't stress about these things, but unfortunately I am not one of them. The chase was fun at first, but it's getting old and I'm only three months into the rodeo. I don't know how some of you guys have been at it for close to a year, but major props. I get it, we are in unprecedented times and there are a lot of things out of BMW/dealers' control, but asking a car company to take your $100k should not be like this.
Very well put and I absolutely agree with you! It shouldn't be this hard to throw $100k at a manufacturer. I get the times but ugh. This whole process has me anxious. Will I get an allocation, and when I do, will I lose features I want? How long will it take? Will it have this crazy screen. The 23 order guide cannot come soon enough. I'm sure I'll get over the screen; I hope. I don't wanna walk away from such an amazing car, but price increases, delays, possibility of missing options, the screen. At what point is it enough?

To all of you saying "I'm out if the MY23 M3 has the curved displays"... I appreciate it. It will make it much easier to get my M3.

It will absolutely help with the supply-demand thing. Maybe it was strategic. Hm. Kidding. It's their new direction. But I'm sure it will help offset the demand some.

This is a good attitude to have about it I guess.

Like others are saying tho, it's very tough to stomach major feature downgrades/removal at this price point.

I've had several dealers say "Don't worry, BMW will save the parts for their more expensive cars." However based on the things being deleted even from the M8 I have on order this sounds like dealer-speak to me.

And yes, frustrating.

Why do you find it funny that some of us would choose to be consumers who demand better for our hard earned money? If you want a car company to take advantage of you and treat you like garbage then have at it. Enjoy your tacky dash setup.

It's not as if the factory isn't capable of applying different tech to different trims of the 3 series (especially as the M3 isn't getting a formal LCI).
MY23 50 Jahre edition is just a MY23 with cosmetic updates. Its highly unlikely that they are going to offer two infotainment options in the same platform. There is a CA in the forum who denied iDrive 8 implementation for MY23 in the past and he changed his mind after seeing these updates.

I believe your MY22 order is pushed beyond CW26 which might end up as a MY23 and you are hoping to have iDrive 7 in your vehicle. MY23 order guide will be out shortly and would confirm these updates in next MY.
Thanks. Well, what I'm hoping is that Week 29 (beginning July 18th), to which I've been pushed, still falls within MY22 (or indeed could be the last build week before the switchover), For it's still unclear (and unconfirmed, like so much else!) when exactly production for M23s is projected to begin in late July/August.

Im probably out if it goes this way. I am likely 18 months from ordering an M4. A sporty, yet classic interior with full leather is essentially at the top of my list for my next car. This will be a 3rd behicle for me and my first fun car in about 10 years. I plan on keeping whatever i get for 10-12 years.

I threw the C8 out of my option list cause of silly layers to the dash and that wall of buttons. And i dont like the center ipad angled at the driver. I picked the M4 over the Emira and Cayman for the speed and because i actually love the exterior look after it is slightly lowered. This tacky screen will put me back to the Cayman S or an Emira if the AMG engine ends up being tunable.

And its double sad cause my lady wants an X5 in about 24 months. That will push her right out too if it goes the same.

If that’s the case then 2021-2022 will be much more sought after in the future. Now they just need to cancel 6MT and give joystick instead of a steering wheel 😂

M4 will most likely get this update by MY24 (unlike MY23 for M3) which will be inline with 4 series LCI.

I would guess i am ordering winter/spring of ‘24 and getting a MY25. No matter what i get. Which of course may well screw me on the Cayman too.

This move to electrification and a full VR style cockpit is killing it for the sports car guy…

This, to me, is akin to waiting for next year's cell phone in hopes of getting the latest and greatest.

Technology moves fast. As soon as you buy something, it's just a matter of time before it's eclipsed by something newer.

Life is short. Enjoy the moment.

The jump from ID7 to 8 doesn't really strike me as something I'd hinge a purchasing decision on. They're both all-digital and both underwhelming compared to Audi's digital dashes. If this was about keeping an analogue tach needle that rotates clockwise vs. anything less than that, I'd prefer the former for sure, but at this point you're getting screens one way or another.

My real worry (looking for a G80 presently) would be if the MY2023 "first-year" implementation will be a feature-stripped "lite" version, akin to the iDrive 7 in the MY2020 G30s.

i have no problem with the screens (i'm sure i would get used to them eventually) but i reallllly dont like the lack of the 1-8 buttons and the lack of climate control buttons. I have the 1-5 buttons set to call my wife, parents, etc. Very convenient to get in, and press one button and start a phone call.. cant believe they're getting rid of it.

You definitely misunderstood. I am not buying for a couple years. I do not want a 3 foot long stuck on screen or an electric motor powered vehicle at that time. The options are getting few. Id buy an M4 today if i wasnt still paying on my F250 and wasnt moving in a year. But other stuff comes first.

For the last 5 years or so I haven't had to touch any buttons to make calls....I've been calling the wife from my past & current vehicles by saying "Hey Siri, call...."

Agreed. The screen is fine, has some nice features and I think actually will look pretty nice once people get used to it, but the lack of physical controls is the problem. Having to go into menus to get to settings is a problem and more dangerous because it's more time taking your eyes off the road. And there is the hey BMW thing but it's slow unsatisfying because of it. On my Jeep I have to go several clicks into the menus to turn the seat heating on or off. It's always annoying.

Isn't the new big iDrive 8 dash screen controlled by touch AND the dial on the center console?

And aren't certain controls like cabin temp permanently displayed?

It looks like the temperature controls are permanently displayed but those programmable buttons were SO nice. As where the hard buttons for the seat heating for instance.
