Where to mount a front plate?

Ordered my 2021 M4 Competition. Unfortunately, NY requires both front and rear plates. I’m told that upon delivery the dealer will ask for my final input on fastening the front plates.

Thoughts?

So did Ohio until last summer, yet I haven't had a front plate on my cars since 2003.

There is a tow hook in the front if you really want a license plate and not pay a citation. It will look something like this:

This, I live in a state where it's required. I haven't had one on any car since 2009 and have no intention of putting one on.

Parking sensors sometimes make tow hook plates not a viable option. We'll have to see.

I don't run front plates and haven't had any LEO or parking enforcement do anything about it in like 10 years.

Tow hook! Possibly get a slim black plate frame too if that is possible with a tow hook mount.

Thanks everyone, just i guess...trying to do some research... I’ve seen things like the motorized plate that comes from underneath the bumper.

Tow Hook mount etc.

Was trying to gauge what others were doing with the 2021 and the grille.

Unfortunately, I don’t feel like leaving it off, citations aside NY is annoying when it comes to tints as well, and I’m definitely getting that done. Soo... to avoid multiple tickets at the same time, rather not draw any more attention than I already do.

I’ve never been pulled over for tints; (knock on wood) but tints and no front plate, feels like i’m just asking for it.

I know a lot of people have the plate on the dash, or with them and use the ol, ‘ the brackets coming in the mail excuse. ‘

I am kinda interested in going with the automated bracket under bumper, but i’m kinda worried about clearances there.

I have a Sto n Sho mount on my F82, which allows the plate to be popped on and off in 5 seconds or so. I'm sure they will come up with an application eventually. I don't like to drive w/o a plate because it gives a reason to get pulled over (which I have been in the past); also, City of Portland parking Nazis have been taught to slap an $85 ticket on any car parked without a front plate.

I never thought the front plate being a big deal on my BMWs, I never think of it after it’s mounted. I’m pretty sure the G8X will be the same, at least that’s were I start out, if it at some stage it bugs me I’ll think of something then.

I’m not getting my cars to take them to shows etc. and I never aesthetically mod them either. Not my thing.

Here in IL they're required as well. If you google search you can find mounts that use the mesh grill as retention for license plate brackets.

Edit: Nvm this is what I did for my F80. Don't know for the G80 unf but now I'm curious too haha

2016 M4 GTS.

TX requires front plate, enforcement is rare but unfortunately I was pulled over by an evidently very bored statey, no fine but ruined my drive and my whole day truth be told.

So I put on a tow hook mount from US Millworks.

Very easy to do, no drilling and easily completely reversed to stock in a few minutes if desired.

I understand those who just say f**k it but I am a bit apprehensive and prefer to not worry when I go out for a drive.

I’m really debating on whether to hide the grille or not, at this point. I saw a few pics online with the plate covering it. I’m trying to imagine what it would look like with a tow mount plate.

I’ve come to the conclusion I should move to a state with no front plate law.

I haven't had one on any of my cars since moving back to IL in 2000

Been questioned twice on it and never given ticket.
Wife got ticket at airport parking lot and we said plate was stolen, they voided ticket! Haha

If you live in Chicago it might be harder to get away with but near suburbs you should be fine. Guessing same with other states.

Just tell them you are waiting for bracket to come in, worked for me both times.

I have one of these on my M2C. If they make one for the new M3/4 you probably could position it very low centered on the grill.

I had one of these on my CLS63. Mine was motorized James Bond style.

OP, if you’re a good citizen then forget the plate. The only times cops pull you over for missing a front is if they want to bust your balls or think you’re up to something. Otherwise they don’t care.

Anyone found a company that has the front plate mounting options? We don’t have the cool euro long plate. I really don’t want to mount the square-ish plate in the middle of the big grills.
The hole is almost 9” deep from the bumper edge!

A while back I did some quick mockups. I guess this will give you a rough idea of what it would look like. All are pretty awful. In CT I've run without the front for 6 years on both F80's. Never had an issue even though it's "supposed" to be there.

I've always "enjoyed" the look of an off-center license plate placement using the tow hook mount when plates are required. But this car's tow hook placement is really awful for putting a plate on. It looks like you have to cover a part of the grille this way.

Agreed, I think I’m going to rough it without the front and claim i’m waiting on the hook to arrive, until I can get a non drill option.
