First M car - Purchasing advice for Thai resident?
Been lurking on this board since last year and I have been wanting to buy my first M car ever since.
Disclaimer, I live in a country where car import taxes are extremely high so purchasing a car of this caliber needs extra thought. At the beginning of the year I have been looking to purchase a used 2017 F82 LCI ZCP at around $160,000-200,000 (newest model starts around $282,000). However, in my country there are not a ton of used M4 to be looking for, and most of them are not the specs I am looking for. All the while eyeing used 2019 M2's on the side around $128,000 (newest model starts $192,000). With the release of the G82, I became more hesitant about what to purchase. To me, I'm ok with the new design but kind of wanting to wait it out and see the LCI. Options 1. Purchase new G82 (lets say around $282,000) 2. Buy used F87 2019 ($128,000) then sell when G82 LCI comes out 3. Be on a lookout to buy used F82 that is the desired spec. Thank you for your opinions. |

wow dude is buying a car in thailand just as prohibitive as it's in singapore? That's some crazy import tax
but yea keep in mind a lot of us in north america get all hot about new cars generally due to 1) their relative cost to income ratio being attractive 2) attractive leasing options .... unless you are offered good financing or leasing options on a new G82 and it makes for your situation.. prob go used

For those prices I would definitely get a F82!! And just keep it!
All M cars are very good, there isn't a life-changing difference between generations |

considering it will be my first time driving a performance car, it might be better to start off with the F87. But I will be heading to the dealership just to see what deals they have for the G82.

Yep, If I can find an F82 with the right specs I'm pulling the trigger. Having lived in the states for 7 years (studied in CT btw!) Americans really get to drive good cars at an extremely low price.

I tell everyone this all the time. In my home country, an m340i costs $132k USD. Here in the US that's M8 money.

I'm assuming then income is $400-$500K a year? Otherwise how are people affording a $300K car?

Performance cars or exotic cars are mostly bought by the very wealthy. Cars in our country our expensive even normal brand cars. Most people just get to places by motorbike.

I'm not sure how much the LCI will improve the aesthetics (maybe just tail & front lights?) but you may want to get into an M2 first if that meets your needs, and then consider the LCI as an upgrade in the future.

Original from VN but I live in the US. If you have the money go for the newest one G82. These crazy rich Asian people always paying cash. Im sure you too bro buying the newest one enjoy it then sale it when you need the money. You won't lose your money when you sell it because it's rare. When the 2015 M4 came out in VN which cost $200,000 USD same spec as the US cost $74000. So G82 should cost 200,000 to 230,000 depending on how you spec the car but Im sure Thai and VN have very similar taxes.
