Surprised you don't object more to BMW corporate elites pandering than the people calling it out. There's nothing about corporate BMW/M that's "Kith."

BMW/M used to make driver's cars that people were drawn to on merit. Now they're hoping lifestyle associations will generate sales.

In their defense, and from a brand outlook perspective, there's a waning interest in cars & driving among younger gens. Positioning cars as an element of the lifestyle shit they're actually interested in might not be a bad play.

If they're wrong, they could end up being castigated from both sides as sellouts. I'd say they're well on their way from the enthusiast perspective.
The point is, this is a huge victory for Kith even though people feel Kith is not worthy/beneath BMW. I dont see it as pandering on the part of BMW - there was no gun to their head, they chose to do this on their own.

The alignment of ideas and brands in today’s world will not resonate with the ignorant, which is the whole problem evidenced in this thread. So instead of trying to understand this in greater detail, the dumbed-down commentary ensues.

Kith and BMW have already won regardless of what anyone thinks.
I agree that this is a win for both brands, and I definitely agree that most of the hate here is from people who hadn't ever heard of Kith last week. To many peoples' point, this wasn't for them.

That being said, Porsche did this better twice in the last year.

I have no idea who Kith is or what "hypebeast" means, but this just doesn't look good, period.

I think it's not specific to Kith. Any brand that puts a decal that size on the roof would get the same reaction.

They should sell those M colour seats as an option and instead of KITH have BMW M embossed on them...it's a shame the rest of the world doesn't know who KITH is...We'll have to wait later on in the cycle of the M to get a motorsport tie in addition which makes more sense

Not sure why all the overreaction. BMW didn't have this collaboration thinking it would appeal to the majority. This was likely done to appeal to a certain demographic that we know have zero interest in cars either for driving or just general car ownership. There would almost be no point for BMW to collaborate with more established designers or brands like Louis Vuitton, Chanel, Tiffany, Hermes, etc. because they would be catering to the same group of people that would either be buying a BMW anyway or already have one.

This exercise for BMW is nothing more than trying to capture a market and expose themselves to people who only think of "hypebeast" culture and Uber.

No, you've missed the point. Nothing to do with Kith being below or unworthy, at least not from my perspective. I hope the association is positive for Kith. More like BMW lacking identity, forming artificial brand synergies and selling out to generate sales.

Alignment of ideas and brands in today's world... Yeah, BMW corporate is in the business of selling cars and believes Kith can be used as a gateway to their future customer base, so they're hooking their wagon. They're willing to plaster the Kith brand all over (even overshadow) their own to convince you.

Wouldn't be the first time corporate elites were able to successfully infiltrate and convince a new target audience of their authenticity and belonging. In light of the prevailing enthusiast reception to their latest, might be a sound business move.

Everyone in this thread has competing thoughts and opinions and no one is right/wrong but I think what many people here are failing to grasp and understand is this sort of collaboration has always been part of the BMW Group. This partnership and collaboration goes beyond sales.

BMW Group, outside of designing, manufacturing and selling cars, has a group of people dedicated to branching out and integrating with different cultures whether it be music, jazz, art. This Kith collaboration is no different - whether or not people agree with it or not, this type of street, hypebeast culture or whatever you want to call it, is popular now and to BMW, they think it's important branch out to.

So back to your original comment, can this be seen as BMW trying to generate some sales? Sure. But is this evidence of BMW lacking identity and selling out? Absolutely not because BMW has always participated in this type of thing whether it's the BMW Art Cars or supporting and hosting Jazz and Art and Opera events at the Welt - cultural engagement is a very big thing for BMW and is outlined as part of their business responsibilities.

The execution of the car was a miss. Which is also the worst thing that they could have messed up.

The whole thing might have been cool as a Kith art car, but as a series, it's seems displaced from M racing heritage. Strange marketing, but they never seem to have trouble with sales!

True, you may live in your parents' basement wearing Kith and fake Hublots for all I know.

The math is pretty easy....I don't think I've ever seen anyone with so few reps and so many posts....which basically means people think you contribute nothing on here and they think you are a fucktard (on here and likely in real life).
