In the main iDrive screen, you normally get to the Apple Carplay screen by pressing up on the iDrive controller and selecting Carplay. You cannot assign this selection to a memory button.

However, if you go to the Apps page, there is a menu item for Apple Carplay that you CAN assign to a memory button.
What does everyone use their memory buttons for? I cannot find anytbing to fill them up with!
doesn't just pressing the Media button take you to car play?

In my current 2019 M550, it's a two step process. 1. Media Button 2. Scroll to Car Play. (Unless I'm doing it wrong &#128529

So items 3, 5, 6, and 7 is navigation to those places? Pretty cool if that's the case.

Never owned a BMW before so I'm easily amused lol.

It's for when I want to switch from satellite to CarPlay for example.

Yes, map navigation to most common places. I'm one of those people that likes turning on the nav to routine places for the traffic and re-routing alerts.

8 I finally made the tone/sound settings. This is temporary as I tweak my EQ settings to perfection.

I use 1 memory button to sync the climate control settings for both passenger and driver so when im only in the car i dont have to adjust both when changing cabin temperature.

I came from an E90. When I got the car, I saw the whole set up down there, and thought "sweet, there's a cd player". Very disappointed to learn that's not an 8 disc cd player. Like, disheartened. Didn't know I could use those buttons to program anything, won't touch it as an ode to the missing cd player.

I use remote start all the time. I always remote start and let the car sit for at least 5min before I drive off to get everything up to temp.

I've never had it, but I've always been in the habit of waiting at least a couple of minutes or more before moving the car to allow the oil to circulate and start the warm up. And, I never push the car until it's up to full operating temp. After a bunch of BMW's this will be my first M car, I'd imagine this is even more important.

This all said, I don't think remote start will work when I'm home as it's parked three levels under ground in a parkade. But for anywhere else I'm looking forward to it!

Important for what? To achive the fastest possible oilpressure buildup and distribution, one should start driving after some seconds. Standing there for minutes doesnt do the car any good. Doesnt harm either, it's literally for nothing.

Bingo!

Start the car and get moving. Let it get to operating temp and then do as you wish.

The G8X has the same weird 12v sockets as the F80 that won't work with every adapter. It's like a crap shoot. Half my adapters work. Is there a different standard or something?!
