Why would you need the tach when on cruise control?

If I recall correctly, and not defending the logic, but engagement of M Mode disables driver assistance.
So when the tacho is in the HUD , cruise can’t be engaged.

I don’t. But I was driving in manual mode and like the tacho HUD when doing that, and then entered a highway and wanted cruise control, and in Seinfeld terms the car shouted “No cruise control for you!”

The thought process that that someone has gone through to decide that they need to force me to stop my tachometer HUD being visible before I can activate my cruise control is frying my brain.

BMW is really not doing well when it comes to this mandatory business logic in their software. There are many more examples. Just build the damn car and let customers choose when they have their Tacho hud visible, when the fake sound is completely off etc….

I just want the m mode view to be enabled with M1/M2 automatically. I really like the tach in the HUD as it's a manual, the second process of enabling m-mode after already choosing M1/M2 is annoying.

Software development is hard. There's a lot of hours and planning that go into how any piece of software works, car software notwithstanding. Giving customers every single option in the world would take an unimaginable amount of development time, so they settled on the options that give them the most flexibility while adhering to safety requirements both from governments and internally at BMW.

I'm not surprised at all they don't let you use CC if all of your safety settings are off. I wouldn't want to either.

Agree on both points.
I have struggled since launch, however, about the real purpose of the M Mode button given the existence of the M1 and M2 buttons… or perhaps said better, that the three M Modes are not configurable to at least some extent.
I understand the point that there would be added coding, but giving (for example) the option to have the tacho in the HUD in all M Modes seems unlikely to be too burdensome on coding.

I think without a question M Mode should be an option when u hit M1 button. Makes no sense to select your custom M mode and separately have to enable M mode
BUT I suspect they did this becuase it M mode disables some safety features and they want multiple warnings that u are doing that.

There's that m-view module for idrive8 you can get that turns on m-mode with m1/m2 buttons, I have it and it works great.
But ya m-mode disables lane keeping assist so that's why acc doesn't work.

yeah, this button makes zero sense to me. It should be a configurable setting. I guess it's nice having a shortcut to have that view if you're in comfort....but then you get locked out of features?

Weird.
