Oh ok doesn’t take much force huh?

Not at all…I did mine two weeks ago and was able to just use my hands to compress the pistons.

Caveat: have worked on many brakes, including similar to the M3, but not done the M3 yet (for obvious reasons).

To retract the pistons, I usually use a large screwdriver wrapped in a towel. Lever against the caliper and push the pistons back. Pretty basic, but it has always worked. Just go slowly and retract the pistons evenly.

Save yourself the possibility of marring the rotors and use a plastic pry from one of those interior plastic pry kits. Works great and no issues EVER no matter what.

I have not changed mine yet. But I would always install anti-squeal paste on any brake change. On any car. Always have in the past.

Off topic but what are you using to attack the brake dust on your wheels?

Yea exact same. I am spending more time cleaning wheels the entire car (I got full PPF so it’s not super long). I just can’t put up with the dust. It’s insane

Yup. Cleaning the wheels is 50-60% of the total cleaning time of the car. Sad.

Hey guys need some help:

I did the iSweeps myself. Install pretty straight forward. For the rear:
I used BimmerLink:
- Diaggnostic mode (3 clicks of start button)
- BimmerLink - break service mode activated. Heard the motor unwind
- changed the pads
- BimmerLink again - deactivated service mode. Heard motor wind back.
- I then pressed break button in the car without pressing brake pedal and got an error
I then started the car and tried break and it engaged and disengaged no problem.
I shut the car off and tried break and gives me an error ????

So basically if the car is running break engages just fine but when it’s shut off and I try to do parking break it gives and error (and I hear long winding noise)

Any suggestions ???

Yea not sure what’s going on.
I did not mess with the EPB whatsoever during pads exchange. I basically removed caliper put new pads on and put caliper back on. All while using BimmerLink to activate break service mode and deactivate it. I did not compress piston either during exchange (did not need to)

So what I noticed now is if I try to engage parking break without my foot on the break I hear long winding noise of the EPB and get an error. If I have the foot on the break it operates normally???

SwankPeRFection any advise man?

If you are getting the parking brake error, there is a procedure in the owners manual for resetting the parking brake. Mine had the error once after picking it up, I just followed the instructions that were very simple and it hasn’t happened since. I suspect you just have to re calibrate the electric parking brake.

For bedding in, I didn’t for a while, and eventually did a typical bed in procedure once I was able to get out on a quiet road to do it.
