Oil change prompt too early?

I currently have 7800 miles on my G80 M3 Comp, so I've put 6500 miles on it since the break-in service. I'm getting a notification that an oil change is due in 1700 miles which would put the service at an 8200 mile interval.

I'm about to head out on a 2400 mile road trip, almost entirely highway miles, and was planning on having the car serviced after as I'd still be under 10k miles between services when I get back (would have ~8900 miles between services). Would it make sense to just wait to do that or should I try to get it serviced at my home dealer before I leave?

Odd. My G80 says next oil service after break-in is at 18k miles. Are US intervals that much shorter?

The oil change interval is 10k or 1 year which ever comes first and depending on how hard you drive the car.

Break in service doesn’t count towards the 10k/1 year oil service.

Why are countries different with same engines/cars??? I am tempted to change mine at the 9k mark ie half of uk interval. Here we seem to have no time constraint that is stated at least.

Happened to me to. I think what happens is that they don't reset the oil change alerts at the break in service because it doesn't pop up

Yes, get the oil changed before your trip.

As with every single brand where the car calculates oil change times for you, if you get the oil changed, set the counter back to 100%, leave the car in the garage for 6 months, and come back to it, it'll be in the 70% range.

So, you're falling short, my guess is, the car doesn't get driven enough to get to that threshold. I have 10,174 miles on my car, and the oil change says 98 miles. My car was a year old, October 19th. I'll get it done, Monday or Tuesday.
