Thanks MachineWithSouls for the comment.

The guide cited above is really great; must read for anyone considering purchasing a G80/G82. I highly recommend it.

As usual, the G83 is left out of the explanation like the red headed step child.

- Limegrntaln: Shadowline trim is an option on the base model manual transmission car.
- Asymmetrick: Depends on the country and terminology. Here is what I mean:

1) In all countries, manual and competition G80/G82 models have the base "Shadowline Exterior Trim" (option code 760). Some parts included with code 760 can be changed to carbon fiber variants (e.g., rear diffuser) but not all (e.g., window trims). So, Shadowline Exterior trim (option code 760) is not an option for the base G80/G82, it is included on all cars but the extent of it depends on the number of optional carbon fiber parts added to the car.

2) Regarding the "Extended Shadowline Trim" option (code 7M9) –which I believe you are referring to above–, this is a selectable option for the manual M3 and a deletable option on the competition models in the US. This is not true in all countries: in Canada code 7M9 is included on both the base and comp models (can also be deleted if desired). The take home message is: Code 7M9 is a no cost addition on the manual M3 (in the US), and a no cost deletion on the competition M3. In other words, you can have it any way you want at no cost.

- Limegrntaln: There is no Shadowline badge option for the manual cars.
- Asymmetrick: You may be right on this one. I tried to find an official BMW reference for the black M3/M4 badges being "Shadowline" and could not. Same situation for the main kidney grille, brake/air duct inlays (non-carbon version), and antenna cover who are also high-gloss black elements and could –technically– be considered Shadowline. Again no word from BMW on these elements. So, in the absence of official documentation on the badges, kidney grille and brake duct inlays being Shadowline, I decided to not discuss these elements in my post. Let me know if you find an official BMW reference for any of these elements being genuine Shadowline. I will gladly modify my post if this is the case. Even it it is not, I might include a new category of "Quasi-Shadowline" features such as the kidney grille, brake/air duct inlays (base variant), & antenna cover.

- Limegrntaln: There is no Shadowline badge option for the manual cars.
- Asymmetrick: Let me know if the badge is officially considered a Shadowline element by BMW.

- Limegrntaln: If you wish to make an edit to your original post and it's easier to just copy and paste mine, you can do that as well. Just wanted to clear that up a little.
- Asymmetrick: I will update my post shortly to include helpful/constructive comments from the community. Thanks for your comments – I appreciate!
I see the play on words, here. Shadowline vs Extended Shadowline. If the Manual M3 come with "Shadowline" what exactly does that entail? Like you said, a black antenna cover?

I think the only thing people care about, understanding is, the portion that BMW allows you to add or delete, by selecting, or deselecting an option.

Since BMW doesn't reference the badging, chrome trunk, brake duct gills, kidney grill, it would appear that since the manual doesn't come with "extended shadowline" as standard, and the competition does, and the 2 differences are the extended shadowline, vs non extended shadowline getting the black badges, or is it just strictly a "Competition" thing?

In adding the carbon exterior package, the only 2 things that change, that arent manipulated by the Extended Shadowline, vs Non Extended Shadowine, would be the front brake screens, and rear diffuser. Which changing to the carbon exterior package, removes the front bumper brake screens and adds carbon ducts, which also removes the 760 shadowline black rear diffuser, changing it to carbon fiber with the package.

I'm glad someone else was confused by these photos, because I think they're totally unclear.

I ordered the Laser lights without Shadowline option because I personally think it looks better.

Thanks for putting this together!

From these photos makes me glad I got the laser lights. The LED lights in those photos (USA spec) remind me of the orange crud on my old E90 which I had to buy euro spec lights to replace them because they were so damn ugly. Can the USA just get up to speed and remove that stupid requirement? Comparing shadow to non I do prefer non-shadow though.

Thanks for the write up! I always thought it was annoying not knowing exactly what gets changed between shadowline and non-shadowline unless you go through pics or see the car in person with a fine comb to spot the differences. That said, definitely going no extended shadowline on my 6MT with shadowline laser lights when my order kicks in! I prefer the painted mirror caps over anything else.

what's the bronze stuff?

still can't tell if the lens is smoked on the shadowline options. if that's the case, hard pass. if not, then that's a neat option.

I believe the OP put the bronze on the sections that are different between shadowline and non to make it easier to highlight the differences. Regarding the smoked look….it sure does appear that the shadowline headlights are more smoked in these pictures. But the OP says that's not the case (no tint or smoked effect).

The goal of this thread was so good, but the execution leaves a lot to be desired. Wish we had pictures that actually told the story instead of continuing to sow doubt.

Assymetrick did a very good writeup. But like a few others that commented or replied to the original post, the photos were difficult for me to see the differences - the differences seemed too subtle to pick out from the photos?
