Question New G80 BMW M3 AWD vs Used Porsche 981S + Audi S5 SB/BMW M340xi

I am currently driving a 2018 C63S. I love BMW and have owned several in the past but somehow found C63S to be more exciting than F80 M3. I am going to change my job and the new one involves 70 mile daily commute for at least 15 days of the month. Although it's mostly highway, the roads are not the best. We also get bit of snow in winters. I also need at least 1 car with rear seat for my children. I am not convinced a single car can provide the practicality of DD and fun that a dedicated car can provide. So I am now torn between these 2 options.

My requirements
Daily Driver - AWD, Quick, Comfortable, Modern tech and preferably has Android Auto, Relatively economical to run, Auto
Weekend Car - RWD/AWD, Fun, Awesome Engine Note, Auto/Manual, Not practical....lol

My budget is 80-90K

Option 1 – New G80 BMW M3 AWD – Jack of all trades
Option 2 - Used 981 Cayman S + Used Audi S5 SB/BMW M340xi - Horses for Courses

I am aware this is M3 forum filled with hardcore BMW M fans but still wondering what others’ opinions

Garage List
2023 M2  [8.00]
I found that having multiple cars for myself is a PITA. You have to deal with insurance and moving them if they are in different locations, like if you have a 2 car garage and you SO has a car as well.
My personal opinion is that I would skip the AWD M3 as you can only get it in Comp form and are stuck with an auto transmission, sort of killing the purpose of a fun car.
I don't know about your financial situation but if you can stretch your budget, a RS6 Avant would be pretty dope. 600 HP widebody station wagon? Sign me up.

Yeah the Audi avant is awesome but I don't think it's in manual

Hard to beat the AWD M3 for your requirements despite the paddle shift...Unless you do a two car garage in which case I'd get an economic car for work and something bat shit crazy for the weekend

Pick your poison!

AWD G80 Comp. It’s going to be a smash hit for BMW M.

I'd wait for the new G80 xDrive and drive one. It might meet your sporting criteria. That being said, I have been utilizing a two car approach for years now and I love it. I'd go option two if you have the garage/parking space available.

Never said it was. But it still sounds 1000 times better than my F82 and the new ones are not much better.

I personally have a Mazda 3 to commute and an F82 CS for the weekend. We don't get much poor weather in San Diego, let alone snow, so AWD doesn't really matter. I looked very hard at a 981 Cayman S or GTS for the weekend car. They're an absolute blast to drive. Ultimately I couldn't pull the trigger as I wouldn't be able to take the kid anywhere in the fun car unless it was just the two of us. The CS allows for fun and a backseat to adventure with all three of us.

If you don't want to deal with multiple cars, get the G80. If I I was you, commuting in snow, 70 mile daily commute for half the month, I'd have a commuter car and a G80. The best part about having the second car is that it stays nice and clean in the garage for when you want to take it out. I suppose it just feels more special when they don't get constantly beat up on poor roads in inclement weather. If I had enough money to get it detailed weekly maybe it would be less of a concern.

To me, it sounds like you need a DD and a weekend car. M3 could do both the easiest from your list. I had S5, nice car but not sporty, you'd need to go RS5 to get what you want. I'd still want a DD so I don't trash my fun car. Also, I like having something to look forward to, like my M3 waiting for me in the garage. Good luck
