1/2 Mile Events (Shift-S3ctor)

Anyone signed up for any 1/2 mile events for the last part of the year? I was doing the Shift-S3ctor event here in Texas with my wife's X3M Comp... but our new M4C is painfully stock. I had planned on taking my 600whp M2 Comp this October, but sold it so my wife could get her new LR Defender.

I'm currently stuck with an unmodified car, and not too sure how fun a STOCK car would be in the 1/2 mile events... probably pretty boring, but I'd love to hear from anyone planning on going in their G8X platform so I can live vicariously through you.

I think these cars are capable of mid 160's on a custom map. Be fun to see one run for sure. I'd bet they will trap mid 140's stock though, so it'd be interesting to see that as well.

Based on how these cars launch and what they usually measure on the dyno, it's probably high 140s if I had to guess. It might be fun to see how it does stock, then have a point of comparison for when you start upping the power.

My 540whp 6MT B5 S4 traps 158mph as a point of comparison.

Definitely still considering going... I agree, it might be fun to get a baseline point of reference for future tuning. Thanks for your post.

Well... I did a Dragy pull today in BRUTAL heat and the car ran 147MPH in the 1/2 mile. So we were pretty close on our guesstimate. Also it shuts down at 158mph too, which sucks for a performance car to shut down so early.

A rule of thumb I've always heard and seen play out is for every 10mph, you need around 100hp. I'd bet with basic bolt ons and a tune, these will mid to high 160 cars.

I'd agree with you... the best comparison I can think of is my old Mclaren 650S I ran at a Wanna Go Fast event here in Texas. It ran 159mph bone stock and made 650hp. I installed catted downpipes, and a 93 pump gas tune and re-ran the car the next event, in similar weather and it ran 166mph.

So, to think in terms of added hp for additional speed I'd say you're pretty accurate in your statement. I've also always heard to run 180mph you need a minimum of 1k hp too.

I do think these cars will go mid 160's with a tune on E40-E50... I really don't even think you need exhaust mods, or downpipes.

A local G82C with JB4 on MS109 went 163.99. If I remember correctly, it did 630ish whp in that trim on a dynojet.

That’s pretty damn quick for a piggyback and some race gas! My Buddy’s 630whp GTR ran 163 at our last Shift-S3ctor event 2 years ago, so makes sense what you’re saying.

A couple SoCal events coming up. NoFlyZone in Shafter on 10/28 and Shift-S3ctor end of Dec at Chuckwalla. Anyone going?

I can't do No Fly Zone unfortunately, I prefer that one as it's enthusiast driven versus Shift Sector which is shops. I will very likely be doing Shift Sector, will be interesting given the new venue.

Heads up though, it's in the middle of nowhere. There's E85 coming through Palm Springs though for those who need it.

How much fuel will a 650whp S58 go through at a 1/2 mile event? I will arrive very close to empty and wondering how many gallons to bring.

Thanks!

Depends on how many runs you can squeeze in. The most I ever did was 8 runs (on E85) and nearly went through a quarter of a tank.

Fortunately, there's E85 at several points in Palm Springs on the way to the new Desert Center location.

Thank you. I hoping for 10-12 runs in Bakersfield but will be running an MS109 tune. I didn't want to carry 10G of it but decided that's the safest - especially since I need to run the pump gas empty before I add, which could be roadside on the way if i time it right.

On race gas you'll have plenty left over, there are also vendors of race gas and E85 on site too. Have fun, NFZ is the best of the west coast half miles. Shift Sector will be interesting at the new location in Desert Center in December.

Thanks! Omega said this event will have no gas. An acquaintance will be at Shift Sector in Dec with an XM and M4 (both tuned). After a few trips to Chuckwalla I just couldn't take the drive anymore, but I may reconsider.

Interesting, they've had fuel onsite in the past. I'd just bribe other teams who have extra if you get truly desperate!

Bumping my old thread.... Anyone have any feedback on their 1/2 mile events to report? Fun to revisit these kinds of threads to see if anyone has either modded, or updated their mods to go faster.

I'll have some data come March for shift sector assuming I take the M3. Only mods are bmc filters and MAD midpipe. I might take the S4 and aim for 160 but we shall see.

Hope you report back here...Looking forward to it, either car you decide to take. I'm still debating signing up for one of the events here in Texas. Modded or stock, they're still fun events.

100% agreed, I personally prefer No Fly Zone since it's more enthusiast driven versus shops and usually get more runs in. But I'll have some dragy data come March as a baseline!
