But I am still aware that the G80 has its advantages. However, there's a bit too much of an aftermarket vibe in the G80/G82 for my taste (as I've mentioned), which always looks kinda cheap IMO. But I'll have to see it in person. You're looking for a S? Last edited by Art__Vandelay; 02-03-2021 at 02:06 PM.. |

I want to replace the M2 with a more engaging car. I don't want to replace suspension on next car.
Option 1: M/T M3 basic spec 90 650$cad + reduce to two cars + fits newborn easier - run it all year long rwd. Option 2: At less then 10k difference going for a 718 GTS 4.0 M/T + cover engagement + better overall quality/dynamics/styling - requires a 3rd car/winter beater Option 3: stretch budget 20-30k more and get base 911 + space for child(relative, not so easy) + 911 - less track ready - no M/T + Good daily - a little showoff for my area Juggling with this stuff daily...

I mean at 113k cad base price the 992 991 is not too far off the M3/M4.

Indeed. The M3/4 went up in price quite significantly with the G8X in Canada.

Looks like I'll wait. Tired of playing Porsches game. They either step up to satisfy demand or lose market shares to "younger" folks who are willing to try something new. I really really hate dealing with dealerships. I think I'm goin all electric folks. Will put my deposit for a roadster. |

In the next week we will ask our dealer when their next Carrera allocation for a custom order opens up. If we can take delivery before summer it’s pretty much a done deal. I wanted to at least wait until G82 driving impressions/reviews were out but with that being another month away I think we lose the chance of having the 992 before summer. Not that the M car has much chance anyway at this pointbut if the reviews are glowing we would have waited to drive it before deciding.
Not having the P-car over summer is almost like missing a full year so it’s a big decision to wait. |

yea but only if you compare a base 992 C2 vs a loaded G8X incl. CCB lol. I just played around with it, a few options later and it's almost 130k sigh.

I have a 2019 GT3. I can't find too much common ground between the M3 and that model. But, I've had E49, E92 M3 and they are superb cars that lean towards a solid practical daily driver. (although I daily my GT3)
This new M3 brings comfort to a very nice level, and still can run like a scalded cat. My plan is to add an M3 to run in addition to the 911. They are just that different in mission and scope. |

This thread deserves some attention now given how incredible the new m4 is and that carwow video showing m4 destroy a base 911 on drag... still can’t believe the traction off the line

The M4 makes ~130 WHP more than a base 992. The fact that the 992 is that close with that much less HP is nothing short of extraordinary. The Porsches always tend to punch way above their power.

Cars are generally fun when driven close to their limits. Both M cars & Porsches these days have such high limits that they're difficult to enjoy on the streets in a safe & legal way. Of course, lots of fun on the track but few people track their cars & that too for 5-7 days a year, rest of the times we expect the car to be fun on the street.
I prefer base versions with narrower tires for street use as the limits are lower & base engines could be revved out more, both are fun! Porsche ride is more compliant and sporty at the same time compared to M cars because P car is designed as a race car first, so the chassis is more rigid, therefore allowing suspension to be softer, while M cars are street cars first with not so stiff chassis which necessitates stiffer suspension tuning. If looking for a sporty feeling car without need for 4 door/4 seats, Porsche makes perfect sense (Cayman or 911). If 4 seats are needed, M cars are the only sporty option! |

I love BMW & Porsche.
My list of cars I’ve had is extensive b/c of how quickly I get bored... M3, Giulia, M3, Boxster S, 911 Carrera S, Macan Turbo, AMG GTS, M340i. Still have the E46 M3 and AMG GTS. If I was deciding between the 911 and M3 for the weekend car then 911 hands down. Absolutely fun and Porsche keeps to their timeless design. I also feel build quality and durability go to the Porsche. The B&O sound system is a must have and much better than the HK in BMW. Wish I kept the 911 but got married and moved to the Macan Turbo which was still just as fun but very practical. Unfortunately my wife got rear ended and it was totaled. Went to BMW and leased the M340i. Very fun and nimble car. Love the power and handling. Doesn’t feel as good as a Porsche though IMO but still I enjoy it. Now considering putting M340i on Swapalease to get the new M3. To me like I said I get bored very fast and I keep my auto broker in business. But best overall vehicle to me is still Porsche. I plan already moving to the Taycan after the M3 but when they have more distance per charge. Good luck and a great position to be in! Cheers! |
