I had PPF on full front and am glad I did. I was in the interstate and something came off of truck hauling wrecked cars and hit my hood. If ut wasn't for the PPF, I would have a nice gash in hood. Dravit is not a easy color to touch up.

Which PPF did you do? how does it look after few days from washing the car? does it get dusty right away?

I have TZB2 PPF G83 with full Suntek PPF. Within few hours of hand washing and Ego/Hand drying the car, I can see dust starting to stick. and in 48 hours of driving around town (clear sky, no rain) it's basically covered in dust and grime. And the dark color of TZB2 doesn't help. It's seems like the PPF is a dust magnet. I don't like this at all.

When I get my M3CX I intend to get a full multi-coat self healing ceramic then add PPF on bumper and bonnet. The PPF will also be coated.

PPF adds some protection from stones but at UK motorway speeds they will go through it but hopefully reduce the amount of rash from smaller/lower speed impacts.

I've coated my previous BMWs and the main benefits have been protection from bird droppings which both wash off easily and leave no etching of the paint plus very easy to get a showroom look every wash.

Did a full ppf! No regrets - except for the inability to roll through a regular car wash

PPF doesn't adhere even if ceramic protection was never installed prior. My X has exterior carbon pack. which includes under frt. bumper, PPF installed on this. The bottom black plastic, under doors would probably respond the same. Also, had ExoShield Windshield protection installed. My area has way too much road construction & small gravel.
My PPF guy was unable to do my front grille either. Said it was a complete PITA trying to get it to work but in the end just didn't do it, I'm fine with that. I can't believe how much brake dust these things put out, had a noticeable brown dust on the front wheels just after 24 hours. Good thing they are coated, planning on doing my first wash this weekend.

But this does mean without ceramic, you'll likely need to get your car detailed more often to get the eventual swirls out. But I'd rather do that than have a shiny ceramic coat paired with rock chips all over the front bumper and hood, which are bound to happen over time. Then the front of the car will look like crap, but the sides and rear could look good with the ceramic coating. I'll take the swirls over the rock chips, but that's just me.
I was told you couldn't do PPF over a ceramic coating. Detailer said it would keep the PPF from sticking well enough. I had the full XPEL PPF on the entire M4 convertible (10 MILL THICK with self-healing properties and 10 year warranty) and then had ceramic coating over the entire PPF. Had the 5 windows tinted with XPEL Ceramic 30% and the windshield tinted 70%. Ceramic coating on the black 826 wheels which really helps with brake dust.

In the past, I have always been able to go through car washes. PPF held up just fine.

I've never had PPF on any of my cars. Since I was adding the cf kit which included the front lip and side skirts and the kit took six months to get here, I didn't want to deal with having to replace parts because I figured they would be tough to come by.

About a month after I added it, something was on the highway and I was driving at night...hit the front bumper, it didn't sound too pretty but PPF saved the day. I'll post a pic shortly.

In short... ppfed entire front, all cf parts including the kit added. Ceramic everything else including wheels.

How is everyone dealing with dust sticking to PPF? I have a 335 that stays outside and it feels like that car barely gets dusty compared to my hand washed G83 that is in the garage. I wash it, drive it 3 times or so and in 2 weeks, it's gets layers of dust caked on. Full suntek PPF. I'm losing my shit. I barely drive this thing and it's collecting more dust than any car in my life. And I wash it more than any car I have ever owned.

I just switched to CarPro Reset shampoo instead of Chemical Guys Hydro Suds. Hope it helps. I'll update it here in few days. Just washed the car today with CarPro Reset.

I'm having my new G80 PPF'd and ceramic coated right now (just dropped off at the shop). My PPF plan is front bumper, headlights, and full hood. However, this still leaves the front surface of the front fenders exposed as a high impact area. Here's my question…..if my shop does a small "partial" PPF piece on the front part of the front fender (this would be a small triangular section on the metal right above where the bumper wraps around)……would the "seam" from the STEK look pretty bad in your opinion? I've heard these blend in pretty well now….just curious if anyone had experience with a seam like that and how noticeable it is. I know the reaction might be, "just do the entire front fender on both sides"…..but everyone has to draw the line somewhere. And for me, I'm already beyond what I wanted to spend on the PPF, so I'm not doing the entire front fender pieces.

The problem with the seam is dirt may end up collecting at the edge or worse get under it. I guess anywhere you put PPF is a plus though, better than nothing.

My car is full STek PPF, plus Feynlabs ceramic coating. Very hydrophobic, and any swirls just disappear with leaving the car out in the sun. Just leaving my car inside the garage, after I wash it, and not drive it for 2 days, and there is a visible coating of dust all over the car.

I know it's sacrilege, but I'm probably going to get a California duster. Not like its going to scratch anything.

Okay so I'm not the only one dealing with this. The dust build up is insane. I don't think stock cars get dust build up as fast. I might try the Cali Duster too.

On non PPFd cars, I would never recommend it. But, I've talked about it on this forum, before, with other people that have their cars PPFd, and I know it wouldn't do anything to the PPF.

How did it turn out? I've also been using Chemical Guys Hydro Suds and been having the same issues with dust that others in the thread have noted.

I really like the CarPro Reset and CarPro products overall. But even then, soft plastic material which is essentially what a PPF is, will naturally attract more dust than non PPF cars. If I could go back, I wouldn't do the PPF but too late now. Spent too much so might as well deal with it. At least it makes cleaning easier and you don't have worry about swirls.

I know this is the new thing to do is PPF and ceramic but man the money gets ridiculous in my opinion and there are draw backs from what I've read in some threads. I've had some cars 6 to 8 years and the chipping and road rash aren't that bad and I've had cars 3 years and plenty of chips. Just trying to weigh the best way to spend my money on this car without over doing it. I would much rather spend it on exhaust and other mods but I feel like all the gloss black on this car is gonna get beat to crap after a couple of years. I just don't know which direction to go?

Any advice?
Yeah, it's a crap shoot. I had full xPel done on both my '16 RS5 and my '19 911 C4S (+ceramic). The '21 M5 Comp was leased (wasn't sure on buying back and only had the front bumper headlights, mirrors and ceramic.

I'm so anal about my cars and the areas on the hood where the rock hit tore and bunched up the ppf drove me bananas. You can't unsee them once you see it. For the M5 Comp, Dr. Colorchip hid 95% of them and well (MBB Metallic).

My G82 Compx (TBM) is at the port and pondering what to do this time around. I'm buying this one (leases are brutal) planning on doing ceramic, plus ppf the full bumper, laserlights, mirrors and rockers and tint, but on the fence about that bikini partial hood and fenders piece. It's such a dark color so that line should show dirt like on AW., plus will most likely pass on that. Another thing to irk you!

Decisions, decisions
