Impact of Gas Prices

Poll here on whether the recent spike in gas prices (e.g., $6-7 a gallon here in California) has had any impact on your decision to buy a G8x or sell one you already own.

are you asking if anyone has decided to trade for an i4 m50 yet? they look decent actually but im still enjoying every moment of the g80 and not planning to change anything, $/gallon and mpg are tolerable for now.

Not at all. If anything i'm anxiously waiting for my C8Z that's supposed to arrive this fall and i expect that car to do at best 15mpg with combined driving. The M3 now i do about 22mpg combined.

93 is 4.79 currently. Which is down from 5.19 last week.

It's getting better.

I feel like gas prices at the pump are overblown and overhyped. In reality it costs maybe $15 more per fillup than before gas prices were plastered all over the news. Assuming filling up once a week that's an extra $780/year in gas. If I'm paying $85k for a car an extra $780 over the course of the year for gas shouldn't sway my decision to get something I don't necessarily want.

Not affecting my decision, but this happens to be a group of car enthusiasts and I’m sure even if gas was $15/gallon, people here would still be talking about getting the new “X” car.

On the other hand, I am hoping some of this inflation will cool off demand, even if by a little bit. I don’t have the best pulse on the market but the fervor that was present late last year seems to have died down a bit with the rise in interest rates as well.

I did 26 mpg on a 186 mile trip recently. Of course, I'm still breaking in the car (<400 miles) so that had to do with it. I wasn't trying to save gas and that is pretty decent IMO. A little under half a tank.

So while this car is not meant to be a Prius by any means, it doesn't have to get 19 mpg all the time necessarily.

This is a good point. Your foot can modulate some of your wallet's pain.

Not in the Bay Area. We went from filling our SUV from $70 to $130 per week.

2 different fill ups. One closer to work, and one by my house. Both suck. I have a 21 Accord Touring that I thought would be nice for a commuter. I've had it for 13 months, now, and I'm probably going to get rid of it for a Model Y P, by the end of the year. 28k on the Accord, already, so, I should probably save some money and just take the dive.

It doesn't bother me because I only really drive when I feel like it l, mostly for pleasure. If I was driving hundreds of miles every week to work etc, the gas station visits would get old really fast regardless of the prices. The car is such a thirsty pig on fuel

Model Y P is a great choice for a commuter car. It'll also keep its value. I could sell mine with 5k miles for the same that I bought it for.

Honestly don't even really pay any attention to the gas prices. I need gas no matter what so there isn't much I can do about it. I also might as well enjoy what I'm driving. Maybe less MPG but definitely more SMG (smiles per gallon).

I almost take a 180* approach — why in this moment of world stress, trial & tribulations would I want to get rid of my baby? It makes me happy!

Agreed, but you start to notice it when you fill up your commuter, 3 times a week, and it used to be $45-$50 now, it's $70

I live real close to work currently, and I usually put only 4,000 miles per year my vehicles....so the price of gas currently doesn't sting me too much.

I feel bad though for the people who are greatly impacted when the price of gas is high.

I've put $175 in gas over the last two days…

I know someone, stationed in Germany, and it's $9 a gallon, converted. It's about $147 to fill one tank.

To : OP . Down there in SoCal you guys are paying $7.00 plus I hear. Here in Bay Area it's about $6.29 for super. Still outrageous though!
