Saw the M3/M4 today
Featured on BIMMERPOST.com Overall the car is fine. Not super sexy and not hideously ugly. Definitely looks larger. side profile looks pretty nice. I hate it when people make these comparisons, but kind of reminded me of a an Audi A/S5. The grilles are pretty much as everyone has seen them. They are permanently open and not active as on the regular 4 series. really didn't look drastically different in person. They said pretty much 100% of the people's reactions on seeing them is "oh, I guess they don't look that bad or as bad as I was thinking." I suppose as time goes on they are becoming less hideous because I am getting numb to them but I still don't like them. The black grilles were a nice contrast to the bright San Paulo yellow. I'd be curious to see that color out in bright sunlight. The new M mirrors look horrible. They are as depicted in that latest iteration on here. They are very squared off and really pretty ugly compared to the current mirrors. The loss of the power dome hood is noticeable and unfortunate even though I know that it is not needed for the engine anymore. I guess we'll have to see how it looks compared to the regular four series, if you can really tell much of a difference with the scallops out towards the front. The rear looks really large and squared off. At least standing close to it didn't seem that attractive . They said it looks like the 8 but I just drove a bunch of m8's and they are way more sexy. the side vents almost look like an afterthought. kind of small like on the M2. I really like the wheels. Both of them had all black wheels. I think I might prefer the two-tone but we'll see. I was hoping to walk in and see it and say, "Now that's hot! That's absolutely going to be my next car! Way better than in the online pics!" Unfortunately, my reaction was, "It looks pretty nice. About what it looked like online. I guess I'll probably get one since there really isn't any similar coupe in the same ballpark." Side note, the m8 is really sexy. I pictured is being a lot larger but it kind of seems about the size of the current six series.

Well, I will say that the new m4 did not make my current one overly jealous, but I would swap and at least 50% of that is because I like new shiny things, new tech, etc. I would usually say new more modern design, but I'm not sure if that applies here in a positive sense. It is a nice looking car overall though. It was definitely interesting driving the m5 competition and m8 competition and then getting in the m2 which felt very similar, old tech like, to my m4.

thanks for the picture. I was trying to remember what the ones I had seen looked like. They were different than those. Must be the competition model wheels I saw

What colour is that blue M8?! That is absolutely beautiful. It’s been a long time since I’ve seen a pic that just made me stop, take it all in, and screen shot it.

I think the black wheels I saw were closest to 706M.

That's a fine question. It was even more stunning in person. I was walking past it with one of the instructors and asked him, "What color is that M8???" He looked at it and somewhat sarcastically said, "It's blue." Lol. He didn't have a clue either.

To further the discussion on the new M3/M4 grill, I was one of those who said, "It looks much better in person." That's because I was expecting , so when I saw what it really looks like, especially with the carbon fiber splitter and the hood being indented towards the front to accent the large grills, it wasn't nearly as bad. The camouflage wrap pictures online does a great job hiding everything but the massive grills and yet hides everything that gives those grills context. I get what they're going for, an aggressive look. Very aggressive. Not sure I'd buy one, but it's not that bad and I get it now seeing it in person.

I'm ok enough with the looks. I wouldn't say that I would buy it for the looks, which is really, really unfortunate for an M car. But let's face it, this is no 8-series. If I can get it at a reasonable price with a MT and 4-doors, well, this seems to be the best option. What I want to know about is the steering feel and what the clutch by wire thing is like. The driving part better be a home run to make up for the looks.
