C&D Tested: 2022 M4 Competition xDrive Hits 0-60 2.8s and 1/4 mile in 11.0s @125mph !
Featured on BIMMERPOST.com Looks like they finally tested the AWD version. 2.8s to 60 and 11.0s 1/4 mile @125mph. Insane supercar-like figures. Sometimes I think about what I'm giving up by going with the non comp 6MT RWD. But at the end of the day it's all about having fun over spreadsheet numbers.

I'm not going to pretend it doesn't cross my mind here and there, too...but only when I'm at my desk, not when I'm actually driving my car. :-)

2.8s is absurdly quick, even with their dumb 1-foot rollout caveat (which means 3.0s in reality). But I think this summary captured it well:

The 5 to 60 makes me wish a N/A V8 or supercharger or, GASP, an EV was part of my garage. Daily driving an EV can be fun for me, but driving an EV enthusiastically was a major letdown. Doubt I'll ever use launch control, and in today's world of cameras/videos/congested PUBLIC roads, does anyone but a criminal actually launch or drag race outside a 1/4 mile strip or deserted rural road? I didn't buy my M4 to be a EV beating topfuel dragster, but it's still nice to see the specs. I'm reminded why I bought the BMW each time I laugh when cornering and accelerating out of a sweeping bend. Also thinking if a much lighter car, even when not abused with LC, will feel faster on hard acceleration and have added perk of "funner" cornering. (that last sentence typed by Captain Obvious)
Guess these questions are all small parts of why we're drawn to the cars we own or spend too much time reading about/dreaming about. Last edited by YamaLink; 06-22-2022 at 08:16 AM.. |

https://www.caranddriver.com/reviews...he-718-cayman/ Certainly not disagreeing with your comments, especially the weight comment. I looked up the GT350 pretty much because it isn't much lighter...and no performance tests that aren't on same day/same place/same temp/same driver/same tires are really all that easy to compare. Supercharged V8's that can actually put their power down are another question entirely with 5-60, of course. |

Most of them are trolls and/or jealous, and evoke the grille punchlines to self-sooth their envy.

Is it true that you can only use LC 30-50 times, and after that it launches slower? I read that somewhere on this website.

My kids love it when we do launch control, they ask for it every time they get in lol. Going to end badly on one of these grocery runs.

That 60mph time seems a bit unreal, just like their 2.1 time for the 911 turbo s lightweight.
