Absolutely part of it. I would be completely shocked if they offered manual on the next one. Really hope I'm wrong of course !

Really hoping that 6MT stays in the G80/G82 generation. I'm willing to bet it'll die off the generation after (H?).

My Client Advisor swears the G80 M3 will have a 6MT option
My client advisor told me that the next M3 will have a manual transmission. He reached out to the BMW marketing team to see if he should buy out his F80 after it comes off lease, thinking it will be the last of the 6MTs. He was told "Don't worry about it. You don't need to buy the car."
This same source told me in 2015 that the F90 M5 would have AWD, for whatever that's worth.

What I'm worried about is if the M3 will be available with the manual, why not make the M340i available with the manual? It doesn't make any sense. The new M3 will assuredly use another turbocharged I6. Knowing what we know about the G20, I'm afraid there will not be a manual G80.
Or if I'm thinking half glass full, maybe there will be a manual M340i a year or two into production of the G20. I'd personally prefer an M340i, but would be fine with the M3 assuming it comes in a manual. It's just a shame that BMW is dropping the manual completely except for their non-US budget cars. |

I currently have a 328i with manual trans; as it was I had to special order that car and wait about 2 months for it. I want to get a 2019 and really like the M3, BUT if there is no manual, even special ordering, I really have to think twice about BMW -- period!
What a bummer -- ultimate driving machine, HAH!!

The M3/M4 are some of the most practical performance cars you can buy with a manual transmission. |

Some people have a large preference for manual transmissions. For some people it might be 10% of their decision, for others it could be 50%. If the manual transmission was just enough reason to have some choose the M3 over another car, no longer having the MT available could be the impetus to try out that competitor. |

And I agree with your assessment, if the next gen M3 does not come in manual, then those other vehicles will move up considerably. Add in the RS5 sportsback as well! |

This may be some encouraging news from a C&D article. Quote from the M chief van Meel:
"The BMW M2 Competition still has the manual for a reason, because in the U.S. we have more than a 50 percent take rate on manual transmissions for the M2," he said. "Buyers vote with their wallets for manual transmissions. Now, being an engineer, I would say from a rational standpoint that even though the manual gearbox is lighter than an automated gearbox, it uses more fuel and is slower, so it doesn't really make sense . . . But from the emotional standpoint, a lot of customers say, 'I don't care, I want to have one.' As long as we have these take rates on M2, and also the M3 and M4, we're going to offer manuals, because we listen to our customers. Even though as an engineer I'd say we don't necessarily need one. If demand is so high, then why not fulfill it?" Original thread: https://f80.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1519913

I want to be able to drive manual M cars for at least the next 20 years more than I care to make a couple bucks on my F80. If I want to make $$$ it's way easier to just go to work instead and enjoy driving my car on the commute. |

based on how the next 340 won't have manual I don't think the new M3/4 will have manual either. i'm thinking the next m2 will keep manual but models above that will be auto only. also why did they git rid of the hood bulge, in the spy shots of the g80 its gone.

Speaking of take rate, what % of BMWs sold are the hunchback of notre dame, the 5GT? More than stick wagons (prev gen) More than current wagons? More than manual 5 series combined?

Oh and don't forget MX-5/Miata, 370Z, civic type R, Focus RS, Fiesta ST, BRZ/GT86/FRS... some decent cars in that bunch too. 7% is still a good chunk of sales, seems weird to risk losing all those customers.

There are indeed some great vehicles out there that are still available with a manual transmission.
But, as I mentioned in another thread recently, these are all coupes. As of the end of next month when the F30/F80 officially go out of production, there will be *zero* sedans left in the US with a manual transmission paired to an engine with more than four cylinders and more than ~300hp. The only one with more than 300hp, the Subaru WRX STi, has just 310hp and is really the last one left that could be called a performance sedan. The rest are bargain sub-compact, compact or in a couple cases, family-sized sedans. Oh, and the new Genesis G70 with the four cylinder engine only and the upcoming new Jetta GLI. Quote:
