Seems word of mouth. I found out from someone who's close to the dealer network. Someone also posted in the g8x regional forums. It's odd BMW didn't add it to the main UDE page.

Thanks for sharing. How'd you find out about this non-UDE event? Pre-pandemic at UDE they'd have M cars for street drives, but nothing track/autocross related. I'd imagine being a current BMW owner plays a role.

Word of mouth honestly. There's a link to the page very similar to the other UDE pages... but for whatever reason they omitted it from the main UDE page showing all locations.

I’m going to the one tomorrow as well. I’d be surprised if there’s track time. I did one last year in the parking lot of the White Sox stadium and it was just street drives, autocross and some drag strip thing. I’m expecting the same tomorrow.

This is very helpful as my M340's lease is up in a few months and I'm deciding between buying it out or upgrading to an M3. It's no surprise that the M3 is far superior on a racetrack - but how much of that is relevant for daily street driving?

Are you going to the one in Joliet or Schaumburg? The Schaumburg one is just an i4 autocross in thr parking lot and some street drives.

Schaumburg, which is why I was expecting what I was. Joliet has an actual track, correct?

I recently test drove a used m4 vert at a local dealer. And I can say even for street driving it's far superior. It just feels so much lighter on its feet... the responses are so much faster... steering more precise... the suspension more compliant and sophisticated...

That's not to take anything away from an m340... it's an incredible car. But the difference between it and an m3/m4 is so immediately obvious even in street driving.

Now if you don't drive very aggressive then sure in comfort mode on a casual drive you probably won't notice much difference

Correct. My cousin's husband went to Schaumburg and it was more or less like every other UDE... autocross and street drives. Hopefully the street drives will have a better selection than the ones at Joliet.

Joliet UDE takes place at the autobahn country club which is an actual track.

Are they giving quick allocations for people who participated in this event.

On a serious note, you should have had a blast and hope you get your allocation soon. Its nice to hear that you are driving G8x vehicles at regular intervals and everything should made the wait well worth it.

M track event which i attended last year was also free of cost and we had a blast.

Really appreciate the information. My local dealer has a brand new M4 waiting to be sold to the highest bidder and test driving any current generation M3/4 is out of the question where I'm located. No luck with Turo and the only hope is the Monticello track event - which is a 5-hour drive back and forth!

Wow I didn't realize this was free. That looks awesome. I'll have to do a better job of keeping an eye out for these things. I'm definitely glad I'm getting some seat time with the G8x. You're right it helps the wait be a bit more tolerable and helps reconfirm that this is the right car for me.

Your best bet might be to find a used one for sale somewhere and see if you can test drive it. The problem with test driving a new one is it won't be past break-in

Cool, thank you. I just hope they have a Z4 for the street drive. I know it’s basically the same as my current car with 2 seats, but they had one when I did the IMS M Track Days in June and I loved it. Been trying to get my wife onboard ever since.

Well if they don't, Motor Werks in Barrington seems to have a z4 m40i in inventory they might let you test drive.

I actually got lucky myself... by the time I found out about it, the times that worked for me were waitlist only. I signed up anyway and decided to show up hoping I'd get in and it worked out.

So if you just show up, can u still get in if you are on the wait list ? Im schedule for the I4 event at NOW arena at 10 buy would rather go to this event instead. Wondering if I should skip that and just show up at this event.

It's a risk. In my case it worked out but I had also gone on a Friday where I'd like to think there was higher likelihood of someone not showing up.

That being said I did call the 800 number for the UDE, and they explained that if I show up, they won't turn me away, but I'm not guaranteed track time. So I can still go for the street drives. But if I do go while being waitlisted, to get there early to increase my chances.

So I can't advise if you should or shouldn't go - just know that there's definitely some risk involved. Personally I would still try to get in - the i4 autocross IMO wasn't very exciting (unless you're seriously interested in an i4).

Thanks. I think thats what Im going to do. Just show up and hope to atleast see the cars in person if i dont get tract time. Ive already cancelled my order for the I4 M50 after i got the M3 allocation so dont think im going back to that atleast for a long while

They will. I sat in it last weekend to see if I fit (I do, but I can't get in/out if the top is up), and they were willing, almost anxious, to let me test drive it.
