This is moving in the right direction. I'm excited to see what else they come up with.
The lower painted outlines of the grill don't help IMO.

QFTMFT. I don't understand how these trolls who despise the car so much but yet still come to this section of the forum time and time again.

Blah, those renders look like shit. I do commend IND for trying.
If you people don't like the grille, don't buy the goddamn car. Have more people ever cried about something on a BMW then they have with this?

I agree. The grille being frameless makes it a near impossible task to make it look smaller, or to break it up into chunks. It will look massive regardless. And BMW has designed the aero around the grilles as well, so nothing short of a massive overhaul will make much of a difference. I would just lean into it like the GT3 racecar that was posted and embrace the hugeness.

Yea, I feel like if I'm going to do anything to change the grilles (which I'm not) I'd want them to look like 'normal' BMW grilles just like that design. Just adding a body colored bar through the center more slightly masks rather than solves the problem.

What's really weird is that, as in the render above, in many countries you have to fix a large oblong number plate right in the middle of the grille anyway, including in Germany:
This completely breaks the whole design flow of a vertical grille like this. For those of us in such countries, the mandatory plate simply spoils the whole thing. We can see the logic of the new design if it's 'bare' - but in our locales, it looks a mess, like a quick Photoshop with a plate cut-and-pasted on as an afterthought.

BMW has many of the very best, most elite automotive designers and 3D modeling artists in the world. Even if you're not a fan of the direction, there's a reason "OEM" looks "OEM".
There's so many subtle details in OEM BMW design that we completely take for granted, but stick out like sore, ham-fistedly molded thumbs when they're executed to a lower standard. The bottom line is that BMW's artists are orders of magnitude better than the guys at our favorite aftermarket outfits. It's like street ballers vs. LeBron James. Amateurs vs. pros. Every render and physical exploration has looked super unprofessional or like a photoshop mashup of BMW's own multi-million dollar professional designs and art from other models. Very few are going to swap polished OEM design for unpolished aftermarket work on the front fascia of an $80-100k vehicle. Commit to the time, effort, and expense of commissioning top-flight artists or hit the pause button and wait 3-5 years for values to sufficiently drop and less discerning owners to get in the G8x game. |

Timeline of G8x grille reception:
2019/20: Spy photos and camoed test cars : 2020: Official press release with photos : 2021: First test drives and deliveries : 202x: Car has been on the market for a while Come to think of it, the general reception to the F8x followed the exact same timeline, just change the years... Just do the same as Evolve has done after seeing the car in person, drop redesigning a new grille/front end. |

They actually love the car (it's a BMW forum after all, people here love the brand for the most part, don't forget that), not how it looks... I'd really want to buy it, but i don't want to feel let down by the look after i spent 6 figures on one.
