I don't think the grille is an issue, at least not for me.

The M4 I believe suits the new look better than the M3 but overall they really could of made the front end flow better to match how fierce the rear ends are on these vehicles.

Some comparisons to consider:

Depends on who the Design Director is.

Usually it works almost exactly like you described. Designers all hear the same vision, pitch, research etc etc and digest the same information before going solo into silos to design. And produce concepts based on whatever design direction the director sets...based on any number of things. CEO vision, market demands, brainstorming workshop etc.

The designers then design, with the director....well...directing by giving feedback. After iterating the designers pitch/present their concepts. Then 1 is selected to make it into clay and then concept production. This is pretty close to how BMW works as described by designer Frank Stephenson and the day Bangle picked his X5 concept.

Along the way feedback will come in from internal stakeholders, of course (CEO, marketing, etc). Any requested changes are as drastic as the design director will let them be. Van Hooydonk must have a backbone made out of steel for these grills to have made it into production.

The biggest changes to the concept are made by safety engineers and the penny pinchers ("if you bend that piece of metal it's not a $100,000 car").

So in short: the designers vision (influenced by a number of factors) makes it into concept form largely unchanged most of the time.

Wow, I forgot how much grille hate there still is. The pics of my car got posted on the Bimmerpost FB page:

and it's been pretty much me against the world on the grilles there in the so far 175 comments. I'm all for being able to speak your opinion, but it definitely makes me appreciate them clearing some of the riff raff out of this forum.

"While BMW will bring innovative change to people's lives with future technology, I want to design BMW models that bring out some sentimental emotions as well."

Well, he certainly succeeded in bringing out people's emotions...

I told a group at cars and coffee that I was going to buy a new G80 M3 and they were shocked, they all hate the grilles, as do I TBH, but a sedan like this - 5 seats and 6MT is so enticing that I do not care. I am super excited about the G80 despite my dislike of the grilles.

I can't wait to get the car, but my experience is car people are not very keen on the new grilles, young / old / bmw owner / non bmw owner....but my point back at them is "point me toward a better family hauler with a manual" and they can't.

CT5V Blackwing is the only other option.

Or in my case point me towards a better coupe with the same combination of daily driver utility, performance and price range and that doesn't require me to have a mullet. [Mustang, Camaro]. I'm going to cars and coffee Saturday with it along with my SPY M3 friend and we'll see how the reception is. It will be interesting to see if people tell us how hideous they are to our face instead of from behind an anonymous keyboard.

Everybody that has seen my car that isn't a car fanatic has loved the front end. They all use the same phrase "the car looks so aggressive". I hated the grill when Bmw first showed it, but after seeing it in person it grew on me. I'm at the point now where I think it looks better than my F80 and I thought that car was the coolest thing since sliced bread when I bought it

I am glad they got rid of the repeat offenders. People who's opinion I respected for many years long before I actually joined the forums absolutely lost their sh*t and deserved the boot. This forum is a business. Every business has the right to refuse service.

Don't pay attention to facebook. It's funny, the more money people have invested in their F80 "build" the more they hate the new design. Go look at "@Dubsesd" on Instagram who has an atlantis blue F80 and you'll see what I mean. The comments on every post are predictable. The F80 is a beautiful car and always will be. Saying you like the G80 doesn't change that.

Yes, my point is one aspect like or dislike is not enough reason to not get a car, people are dismissing how great the car is based on one subjective aspect. I do not like the grilles per se, but the entire package with a manual, practicality, bucket seats, multiple wheel options, a great color pallet from the factory, the dynamics of the car, etc...
I can't wait to get one

This car's been out a while now and I've seen a ton of pics and even a few in the flesh.

That grill though, man, something had to be done.

So I worked on a solution to the "Grill Problem" and while it's not a finished product, I think with maybe a few tweaks here and there, we can put it into production and make a lot of disgruntled BMW fans happy.

They no longer own the top-of-the-line M3 or M4 from BMW, so they find a "reason" that they don't want the new one "even if it was free". When in all actuality they probably got a good deal on a used F80 and then have since dumped a ton of cash on mods that wouldn't pay back.

For example, the BMW subreddit is a cesspool. If anyone shows the new car, the guy with '04 325i in his profile says "". I understand you don't have to be able to afford something to form an opinion on it. For example, I cannot afford Roman Abramovich's yacht, but I think that was a poor investment. Rather, it's the *constant* disparaging remarks every chance they get like they need positive reinforcement from some stranger online to validate their rage on something that isn't even in their ballpark of options.

I bet Roman Abramovich doesn't give a shit what you think about his yacht and you shouldn't care what kids on Reddit think about your car.

It's actually a super cool yacht and has a mini submarine on it. I've seen it in person (not on it, but from the shore when it was anchored)
