As others have said, depending on where you live, you may never use or be able to notice the laser lights. I have family out in the rural areas, and that is the main time I see the lasers on.

Also, we have compared US and ECE headlight coding numerous times, and no one (myself included) found any changes for output/brightness. The North America headlights are physically different than the rest of the world. IF there is an output difference for the lasers, it's in the hardware.
Does your US-spec car have the lens shutters, then? I made the mistake of removing the anti-dazzle decode on my F87 but learned the US spec lights are different and it wound up not working all that well and blinding other traffic. (It would sorta work, but didn't get the nicely defined light edges that my buddy's F82 did)

I got made fun of in another post asking about coding for the G8x cars so I've almost given up asking. But do you see a bit of commonality from the G2x that might carry over?

Coding is one of my favorite aspects of BMW ownership and I've dug pretty deep into each series of car I've owned up until this point but it has all been based on guidance from others...

I had the same problem with my 2017 vs 2018 M4. 17 apparently had the shutters while the 18 didn't so like you said, it "sort of" worked. In the end I wished I'd never tried coding the 18 because the auto hi beams would be better than the half assed anti-dazzle. I never really knew if it was working well enough to not piss people off or not so I really just didn't use it, but on my 17 it was AMAZING. I'll wait to see if anyone does it successfully before I make any attempts at it. And, I don't specifically remember seeing your post, but it doesn't surprise me that you got made fun of on here.

Uh, please ignore those who made fun of you about Coding in a different thread. I'm definitely Coding my G82, because like you, I like the personalized experience of ownership. Hec, and I want my passengers to be able to watch videos while I'm driving.

So, yes, pulling out the cable and will be diving in when I get my car, since it seems like the G20 and G82 share the same basic electronics. I prefer using the cable, simply because it's faster...especially when I'm in Expert Mode. Hec, I come from the days of Coding my F82 using my laptop and the Esys system. It's made so much easier these days.

The process has gotten pretty plug&play the last few years. I was using the iCarley app for both my 335is and my F82, and it was fine for simple things like the door locks, mirrors folding, etc. It didn't have more complex coding like the anti-dazzle headlights for the F82 when I last tried I few years ago.

I'll likely hold off on any coding until I'm closer to out of warranty and coders are comfortable with the G8X ECUs. I never like changing anything too complex that may cause issues or get wiped in a software update and then I have to do all over again if I'm getting warranty work done.

I haven't touched coding since 2018 on my F87. Good to hear it's getting easier. Got a good place to start for me to catch up? I'm not even 100% sure my PC is going to boot up it's been so long

I tried the Carly app on my friends 328 wagon (I got the adaptor and subscription as a gift) and it caused all sorts of weird issues and we wound up having to revert back to stock. I much prefer knowing the exact key value pairs I'm messing with, in what order, and having a pristine snapshot before starting.

Toggling off ASD will be a big thing. I know people say they like it on the G8x vs previous but there are times when I want zero audible distractions.

Bimmercode is fairly straightforward for doing the simple stuff, although I hear it isn't updated for the G8x yet.

Don't forget that in order to have the cornering light and adaptive cornering functions you need the laser lights, this along will be worth it to some.

Incorrect, my cornering lamps work and my headlights aim into corners. They also raise at speed.

No I'm not wrong, but maybe you are lucky because this is an option.

No problem, and the way I read that is you need the executive package for the laser lights and the cornering lights.

Had my 1200 mile service and the techs "reinitialized" the head lights/highbeams/laser light.

No change at all for the distance on brightness of high beams (roll from 20 MPH to 60 MPH in a rural area, no street lights or road signs). For anyone else that has the laser lights, do they work for you?

Unrelated, but since you mentioned 1200mi service, I just got an email that my car, which I don't pick up til wednesday, notified BMW that it's 1200mi service is due. Maybe someone just drove it down from Baltimore to SC.

Maybe it's a new perk where they break it in for you at PCD?

Kidding. That is weird though.

Yea, must be a new free service they are offering. I guess the finance guy snuck that one in on me when I turned down all of his offers.

Laser lights are so much brighter than my 2010 528xi that I traded in for the G80.

Got this from BMW Genius -

"Your BMW was manufactured with Icon Adaptive LED Headlights with Laserlight at the time of production. The headlight range of the high beams is increased and ensures an even better illumination of the road.

When the high beams are switched-on, starting with a speed of approximately 37 mph, the laser high beams in the headlight are automatically switched on in addition to the LED high beams. There is no setting other than switching on the high beams required for functionality of this system."

Everything says they should be working, but they're not.

Anyone have video of their laser high beams actually coming on at 37+ MPH?

The Laserlights in my X5 come on very rarely since I live in a city and mostly drive in populated areas. They did come on when I did a road trip from California to Utah. My understanding is that you have to have the automatic high beams button clicked, be on a limited-access road (i.e., a highway), driving over 37 MPH and no other cars visible.

I went really far out of my way to get the ideal conditions where they would turn on, even on streets with minimal reflective signs, still nothing.

The only reflective thing was the occasional pack of deer hanging out by the side of the road at the park.

Until proven otherwise, I'm assuming there is some code that is blocking the laser lights from actually turning on even though the systems say it's functional. Maybe someone forgot to hand in the paperwork to get these high beams approved for these cars in the USA so they're disabled until a software update enables it.
