Stick with June RWD allocation or wait for AWD?
I have mine for June allocation with July Delivery - is it worth it to wait another month to get AWD or just get the RWD.

Keep in mind that it won't be as simple as waiting another month. You'd have to first get an AWD allocation and then depending upon what that build date is. You are likely looking at a Sept/October delivery of an AWD model if you got in an order in the first set of allocations. If not, you could be waiting upwards of 6 months as the lists at dealerships for AWD allocations look to be pretty long already.

If the poster above is willing to go with any dealership across the country then sure, they could likely get one much sooner. Not everyone has the appetite or desire to open their search to every single dealership in the US.

Factory capacity is finite, and the current lack of allocations is with that capacity split between two variants (base & comp). When AWD is released factory capacity isn't increasing, but that capacity will now be split between 3 variants. Literally by definition the capacity for base and comp must go down, and x-drive will be hamstrung by being 1 of 3. Add to that - not only is capacity finite, but in practical terms it is actually decreasing now due to shortages. Give it a year I'm sure everything will be smooth, but 6 months to get an AWD, unless you go to SoCal and pay $20k over, is not unrealistic. |

I have my deposit down but it's not a question of no allocations. The ordering for AWDs hasn't opened yet. Latest estimate is mid-May, with production starting in June/July for those Sept/Oct deliveries.
My high volume dealer told me they'll get as many allocations as they need, so it's more a matter of where you get in line and what week that results in when production starts. The biggest issue seems to be the chip shortages are starting to affect availability of options, including the laser lights in M4s. So OP, if wait there's a chance you may face production item limitations or restrictions. I'm willing to take that gamble for the AWD. |

Take this into consideration . . .
The Porsche lots have been empty of new 718/911 models for months, and the wait for customer chassis builds is backed up months. Sooner or later, it was bound to happen to BMW . . . and it appears it is starting to happen now. General Manager of dealership where I purchased my G80 told me two days ago he has two customer chassis builds that were queued-up for build last week. Notified that both are on indefinite hold due to parts shortage. This problem is only going to get worse . . . a lot worse. So, no matter the choice, rest assured there will be a wait. ///AVM |

My lease is up in February, so I'm hoping the demand has dropped and the chip shortage is a thing of the past by then. I am not sure how much of that is wishful thinking.
Ideally, I'd love to get my hands on an AWD, but I'd probably wait till the last minute and end up with whatever I can get my hands on. Maybe a Corolla? |

I've got an M340i lease through August 2022. Once the 2022 xDrive order guide is out I will reach out to dealers to assess wait times and get on list if needed as I'm going to shoot for April 2022 delivery. If it goes into the LCI so be it I guess.

you could've ordered one a while ago, options should basically be the same as a 2021 knowing BMW. Not to mentioned your build isn't locked in if you put a deposit down 2 months ago like I did. I have the first allocation at the store I chose for AWD with an August delivery date expected.

There are a lot of people here who have been waiting for allocations for a couple of months now, so that is a real experience, not doom and gloom. It's not as bad as the debacle that is the 911 market, but it also isn't normal business |

The online configurators have not been updated yet though, apparently that will happen next week.

He mentioned there is no pricing info available on the system, so I am guessing full details are being gradually rolled out. He also mentioned most likely if I ordered now, I would "definitely have the car" by March 2022 But I think he was just trying to under-promise. I'm sure the ordering/pricing guide will be out very soon
