Hey chris3g. You helped me out with my ASD a month ago or so. Thanks again. Anyway, you're saying it can't be done with Bimmercode, yeah? Or are you of the position it cannot be programmed at all?

I don’t think it will ever be in bimmercode, afaik there is not any coding variable for this. BimmerLink (sister app to bimmercode) supports flap control but it doesn’t work on the g8x platform - if they figure out the correct commands it will be in BimmerLink. Also you would need to do it every time you start the car.

The flaps are easily controlled via ecu tune but you need to be unlocked.

The valves are controlled by a/the computer. Therefore it has to be possible to code it as opposed to buy/bolt on a valve controller which is essentially a piggy back.

I know it can be done with bootmod3, but I don't have that. Does anyone have any insight on how this can be done with Bimmercode?

PS, I went through the first 4 pages and last 5 of this thread and didn't see anything speaking to this. I apologize if I'm re-asking a question.
Valves are still not opened at 100%, even with software. This can only be done with an exhaust valve controller (like the Awron CanFlap) at this time.

tom @ eas I understand that valves r only partially open in idle while in sport & plus. However, they open 100% at full throttle in sport and plus. Ie, they don't stay at a particular % open for each mode; they do open 100%. Additionally, you can code them 100% all the time as well as revise the mapping to open at various throttle levels. I know it can be done with bootmod3. I just want to be able to do it with Bimmercode. But the consensus thus far is "not yet"

Somewhere on the forums, it was reported that the sound difference between the max software open and full zip tied open wasn't discernable. Would take a db meter to be certain, but seems possible full software open is just dandy.

It can not be done and won’t ever be done. Tune with BM3 or buy a valve controller. The end.

This was discussed in another thread here:

I did confirm that even when the BM3 valve control is set to "Open" or even "Original" (if your tuner set up custom exhaust flap tables like mine did), the valves DO still close variably. I took a short drive after the fix was sent and my valves were acting as they always did. I could hear them closing after a certain RPM depending on the gear and throttle input even though it was set to open.

To further test, I picked up a valve controller, installed it and sure enough I was right. The exhaust sounds noticeably different now, no more valve closing in higher gears etc. They truly stay 100% open and sound much better.

It just goes to show that if you want your valves 100% open all the time, regardless of being tuned, get a valve controller.

U need valve controller.

You are talking about DME level stuff that cannot be done with BimmerCode.

BM3 is very different from BimmerCode

OEM exhaust flaps cant be coded at this time I've tried so many different ways and it cant be done through coding - The way the exhaust flaps work in the G80 series is variable engine control with doesn't open fully unless your wide open race track mode - On the normal operating and this has been proven time and time again they dont open fully and stay open at 100% - you will need a valve controller that is why I hard wire my exhaust valves with aftermarket exhaust flap controllers to stay open at 100% all the time or closed when ever I want to to be quiet in my neighborhood ... I am working on the exhaust sport button to fully open at a 100% all the time and close when i want to - this required a more in dept wiring but works 100% with the factory Exhaust Flaps to fully Open not partially but fully at 100% all the time - I'm working on so many projects right now but getting them done and released to the public

Its not possible to code the exhaust yet and I say that because soon they will be able to do so but the question is when - I've tried to in many different ways and as to if they stay open a 100% they don't it a variable exhaust flap - I am working on a OEM Integration using the Exhaust button to fully open and fully close the exhaust flap and were about done and I'll release it to the public

very familiar with the Awron exhaust flap controller using the steering wheel button but what if we could us the exact button it was intended to the exhaust button - I'm working on that currently and will release it to the public

**IMPORTANT** When you disable cellular and wifi and bluetooth on iPhone those services do not instantly disconnect (they actually never truly disconnect but thats for a different forum group) give it a solid 30 seconds for the phone to run its scheduled 'shut downs' once data is disabled.

Step 5) Confirm the "Ethernet" Line has appeared in your iPhone's settings below your

step 9) change your adapter in the settings to literally any adapter YOU DO NOT HAVE
Step 10) on Bimmercodes main screen click "Connect"
It should very quickly return an error
Step 11) go back into bimmer code settings
Step 12) Select "ENET Cable" as your adapter type
Step 13) go back to the main bimmercode screen and click "connect"

You should now see the prompt of selecting your vehicle model and type appear and it *Should* connect successfully!
Interesting. I just stumbled across these instructions. I should say that I didn't follow any of these and have had trouble connecting consistently using a cable. When I say trouble connecting consistently I mean it usually takes 1-4 tries to get it to connect.

I will try these instructions and see if I can get it to connect first time. One thing I love about the cable is that it codes the car so quickly.

Be sure to look at the video description and write down the "bytes" so you can reference them.

Basically when you go into expert mode and find the "bytes" you can change to make any color you want. Choose your colors ahead of time because if you want to change more than one menu item, like Bronze and White for example, you need to do it all at once or it defaults any other changes you made away.

I found it pretty easy to do, and I've NEVER used expert mode before.

PS- someone posted the "White" bytes in the comments and it works.
This post is great.

In the video notes, he posts:

Bronze bytes:
18,19,20
23,24,25
28,29,30

Lilac bytes:
78,79, 80
83,84,85
88,89,90

Blue bytes:
48,49,50
53,54,55
58,59,60

I want to understand correctly:

The three sets of numbers correspond to the three areas of the car mentioned above. So if you want a multi-colored combination, you would change, let's say:

18,19,20 - To one set of color hex numbers
23,24,25 - to another set of color hex numbers
28,29,30 - to a third set of color hex numbers

Do I have that correct?

Also, do we have a full list of what Bytes correspond to all the colors listed in the iDrive picker?

Thanks.

Yup. Go into the Ethernet menu of the phone and wait for a 169. address to pop up, then turn on Airplane Mode and you'll connect the first time every time.

Yes, you replace those 3 sets of bytes with the color of your choice.

I posted a clearer explanation here:

The definitive BIMMERCODE guide for custom AMBIENT LIGHTING

It's a bit outdated as I haven't tested it on newer versions of iDrive though.
