Not sure how long I plan to keep it. Averaged about a year with my past F80s and even less with other cars.

This one will probably stick around longer as there are no compelling options for a 4 door, manual, trackable, fun/engaging daily driver.

Even Porsche is slowly losing its appeal as the only desirable models have blown well into six figures.

Time will tell.

The versatility of this platform is amazing. Unlike many (most) other cars on the market today, this can be made into an incredibly fast race car that can also be a completely reasonable, no compromises daily driver. It has the comfort and tech one would expect in their office commuter, and then can be tuned to run 9s in the quarter-mile. In a way, that's aspirational...to use the car every day for everything, resale value be damned. I'm sure the experience of over 100k miles of seat time in an M3 is worth it.

It’s a good question to be honest, because I truly think every car I buy (I don’t lease) I will keep forever… but the reality is the only vehicle I’ve ever really kept a long time is the mdx (it’s not me, it’s my wife that loves it.) I usually trade within 5 years and my mileage is low (around 30k).

So, what do I think will happen?
I’ll keep this car forever.

What will probably happen?
I’ll trade it in at some point about 5 years from now. Likely it will be paid off in 3yr, and I’ll take a few years break from car payments and then get bitten by the bug again. This will become more likely if there is a good deal avail, less likely if not. As far as my happiness level, I’m perfectly content with what I have, so I’m not that hungry.

I’m on a 911 wait list, but honestly am thinking of forgoing this gen and waiting to see what comes next, hopefully dealer will be sympathetic since I just bought a car with them. Only reason I want to wait on the 911 now is I just got the G80, prices on Porsche are just too hot, I already have a 718, and the acceleration of the G80 is insane.

I don’t want to spend $130k on a “slower” 911, and I’m most likely going for a T or an S. In reality an S would be around $150k the way I’d want it, and I don’t want to spend that much right now.

Still enjoying the 718, throughly, and while it is perceptibly slower it has it’s charms due to being a Porsche mt. It’s also warrantied through most of this decade which helps, so I don’t see a reason to trade it for what’s likely to be a very similar experience in a T.

I would not trade the G80 for anything right now.

I don’t see myself being persuaded to let go of either of these cars. Most likely next purchase is a pickup truck, but I’m never spending $90k on a raptor and I’d like to see prices drop a bit. I don’t want to spend $40k for a stripper RAM, which is the reality buying new. Went to look recently and nothing really attracted me.

Hoping a next gen 4Runner comes out soon because I may be interested in that, but I’m sure we can all imagine the giant shitshow that will be. In this market, people will be paying more for a 4Runner than BMW’s. While I still like the current gen 4Runner, I already owned one back in 2011 and I just can’t buy a “new” truck that looks, drives, is essentially the same truck I bought 12 years ago.

Totally nuts that Toyota has not brought out a new gen yet, but I do understand in a way cause it’s an awesome vehicle.

The one thing that really shocks me is that when that came out in 2011… it was HUGE to me, like it felt like a monster truck.

Now, it’s average at best. I don’t feel it’s that big at all.

Keep my M3CX forever once it arrives. I sold my 2003 E39 540i MT and regret it. It had become too expensive to maintain and the RWD-MT combo was not great for my NYC commute and winter driving. I’d like to own my inbound M3 20 years from now.

I’m holding onto mine indefinitely which was my intention all along and why I shelled out for full PPF and ceramic. The only non-cosmetic mod I’ve done is the Fall Line Monoball conversion as I felt the rest of the car was pretty much perfect (it helps that this is my first fun car so I’m easy to please ☺️). There isn’t anything else compelling out there except for a GT3 however given the steep price and market scarcity for those that’s not feasible for me at this point in my life and may never be, but I’m more than okay with that.

I like threads like these and was just thinking about this topic a few days ago. Kind of fun to see what other people have planned.

Plan is to pay off early and enjoy for many years to come. I like to get new cars every 2 to 5 years but this car does so much well and honestly the car market and interest rates are just insane and it actually calms me down from wanting to look around at other cars. The love for the manual as well for me limits my choices and unless health or practicality gets in the way I want to always have one. I have toyed with the idea in a few years buying one last manual M3 before and if they totally abolish it but a lot to be determined what comes next for the M3's future.

I honestly wouldn't mind owning the new M5 when it comes out or an X5m just to experience the V8 before it's demise and the all year brutality they can administer. I think the new M5 will be epic!

I want to try and do a couple mods each year just to keep it fresh. It's exciting to add new things otherwise I get bored and then I start straying lol. Then I get yelled at by the wife lol. The old why can't you just be happy with what you have comes out.

I could have written the above as I feel the exact same way. I've been through a lot of cars over the last 20yrs. A lot. But there are a few new things that have me ready to keep this for a much longer term. One, the car market has changed. Everything is expensive and your money doesn't go as far. Two, manual transmissions are going away and I don't want them to, so I feel like I have to hold on tight. Three, this car is such a great all arounder. It's comfortable on longer drives, it's fun, it has tech that I want and my kids fit. If the reliability holds like it has on my buddy's 2016, I could see myself following a similar path of plenty of miles and smiles without feeling the need to change it all up in a couple years. I think it is more likely that I add another vehicle to the mix than get rid of this for something else.

At first, I thought I'd trade out for... something (I'm indecisive because I don't like having multiple cars), but over the year of ownership, I've recognized that I really love this car. The trading in was what kept me off from doing anything to it, but last month I've made a firm decision on keeping this car for about 4-5 years. So, with that I'm finally looking into exhaust systems and air intakes, maybe wheels.

Depending on what's going on with the incompetency of EUs politicians and whether we still continue to see ICE cars - i'll either keep the M3 as a daily/kid car to keep miles reasonable on the GT3 or get the newer one.

No mods - car is fast enough and i don't race for a living. Maybe an XHP to make the trans feel more like a DCT

Daily driver, 5000-6000km per year, keep it at least the full duration of the warranty, decide on extended warranty or new LCI in 2026 (I assume it will still be in production until 2027?).

Light cosmetic mods, valve controller and a slightly more raucous exhaust.

It's been everything I wanted and more so far, barring reliability issues, I'll keep it long-term for me, ie. more than 3 years. Like someone said above there is no car in my price range and available in Canada (looking at you G81) that I want more than the G80.

Same as @DO444, I plan on keeping it forever but we'll see. My 2017 F80 zCP was my very first brand new car and thought I'd keep that one forever. Then once the fomo set in with the G80's looks and the thought of the all-wheel-drive and carbon buckets—I had to have one!

I do admit I feel more content with my G80 than I ever did with the F80. I felt like I had a laundry list of things I wanted to do to my F80 and never got it completed. The G80 feels more complete from the factory in my opinion. I actually love it in it's stock form. The front "gap" is obviously big but because of the 19" wheels and taller side wall, I don't mind it as much as I did in my F80 with 20" wheels. The 50 Jahre Edition already came with the CF front lip and trunk spoiler. I purchased the CF air inlets and rear diffuser and now the car is exactly how I want it. At the moment there is nothing I want to do to it which is amazing feeling I haven't had in probably two decades.

I thought I'd want the Vorsteiner grille but I fell in love with the grille as it is. I also thought at the very least I'd want spacers but I don't even freaking mind that. It's like I'm in love with my car and blinded by it's small blemishes. LOL

It's my daily driver but I work remote and take my wife's ride depending where we are going. I'll probably be around 6K miles when the one year mark arrives.

This is a big thing. People yap about the horror stories, but that really hasn't been my experience at all. This is my first M, but my third long-term 3-series. My E46 was damn near perfect, needing a total of two out-of-warranty repairs (final stage resistor, and VANOS seals) that cost me less than $200 total. The rest was just maintenance. My E90, if I exclude the diesel emissions crap (which I knew going in would be problematic) has been almost as good.

The thing that might worry me about an M car is the engine, as historically most of them have had a "fatal flaw" that emerged after 2 or 3 years. Whether it was rod bearings in the S65/S85, turbo issues in the S63, or crank hubs in the S55, it seemed like there was always something. But the S58 has been in production for five years, and nothing has surfaced. And it hasn't been low-volume either. It started in the X3M and X4M. So there are a ton of them out there. So I'm not concerned about the engine either.

I might be proven wrong, but I'm fully expecting my G80 to be very reliable over the many years I have it.

My 2021 G82 has 45,000+ miles. No issues. If the car remains headache free, I'll keep this car, and just add to the stable. It's a great GT for me, with plenty of spine-tingling performance at the press of a button and a prod of the pedal. Just what I wanted...a car I can just get in and drive without thinking about it.

I almost bought an R8 when I got the G82, but wanted the latest, best tech at the time. I made the right decision. The R8 would have been a nice weekend toy, but I didn't buy a car for pure weekend fun. I use my car to run errands, depending on the weather and such.

So, I like the G82 enough to keep it for a long time, for many years to come. And I hope to drive my G82 across the country, finding as many challenging, scenic roads as possible along the way. And I've already taken several long trips in it, and it's superb.

We're all lucky to own such a capable, high-performance car that handles daily duties with aplomb. Well done, BMW.

If this car holds up, then my next purchase will indeed be a weekend toy, and I have my eye on that manual Porsche Spyder (or as much Boxster as I can afford).

This is my military retirement present to myself so I’m keeping it for the long haul. My plan is an occasional daily maybe around 6-7k a year, possibly more. I’ve got a decent stack of mods waiting to install so it’s going to be fun to make it my own. I’ll admit working as a BMW tech will make that a little easier lol

My last 4 vehicles were leased. Leasing didn’t make much sense (to me) this time around so I purchased with the intent to hold for a minimum of at least 4-5 years. Nothing else in this price range comes anywhere close to how good the G80 is as an all around vehicle. As others have mentioned I may consider trading in for a LCI 6 speed to have one last ICE before everything goes electric.

I’m currently saying I’ll keep my M4 as long as possible, but I might order a final year individual M3 if my M4 has too many miles or feels too used. If I have space for two cars and could afford it, I would love a GT3, but I think the G8x is one of the best single car solutions for a performance oriented daily.

Daily driver for the next 3-5 years and then trade up into a 911. My commute is a total of 3km there and back so pretty light use. I've had the car for less than a month and it's growing more on me every day so I might end keeping it longer than anticipated.
