No complaints from the wife or I neither and I ordered them unseen. My wife thinks these are the most comfortable seats she ever sat in. I have no pain sitting in them and find them pretty comfortable as well. I'm 5'10 and 200 LBS.

Maybe we can set up a poll on rear end sizes and pain sitting in these seats to get the the bottom of it lol.

Found a Dealership by my work that had them on a 2020 M4. Went and had a seat. They aren't bad, but really tight 5'3 155lbs. To constricting for me, don't think I would like them after about 45 mins. Called my dealer and had them removed from my build. Which I didn't want to do because they are so good looking!!! Comfort has to win out.

Ah, wives...

I think most of us, not only are lucky enough to be able to share our hobby with them, but also find a source of excellent opinion & criticism when needed.

Mine is the reason I returned to riding sportbikes after I retired from the AF, allowing me to own two S1000RRs (base & premium); as a way to help me managed my lack of mil. stress and keeping me also out of her kitchen She was also the reason behind my GTR purchase, AND... kept be away from buying certain things that "look shiny, cool, and sporty", but that offer too much pain & discomfort in return (and this is coming from a sportbike rider )

Thank you for this post!

I too fell in love with the looks of the carbon buckets, but unless both my wife and I get the opportunity to try them out first, I will stick with the standard Sport seats.

I really hope we get the chance try out the carbon buckets before attaining my allotment/lockout date. I've told my salesperson to contact me when a vehicle with the buckets shows up at the dealership!

I think that is a great idea, saved me as you know. I want my wife to ride with me, she wouldnt have. Go online and look for used M3 and M4 2020's and try and find one in your area with Carbon Seats. Its worth driving an hour to find out if you like them or not! You may get lucky.

I wouldn't have ordered my m3 without this option. Love these things to death. 6'2 and 195, once I'm in, they are completely comfortable.

The standard seats look worse IMO than the f80 competition seats.

Yes they are a pain to get in and out of. Totally impractical. But so worth it. Just wait until you are getting out of the car, on a slight angle, and holding something (coffee or phone). It requires the utmost dexterity

I picked my M4 up from a dealer in Virginia on Saturday and drove it 6.5 hours home to North Carolina today. It was my first time ever sitting in the bucket seats. I only stopped once for gas and otherwise did the trip straight through. I'm 5'7", 155-160lbs, age 37. I was 100% comfortable the first 4 hours or so and it was only the final 2.5 where I had some minor discomfort, but nothing alarming. I could have gone another few hours without issue. I'm certainly glad I took the chance and got them.

This thread is wild. I've never seen so many conflicting opinions of these FANTASTIC seats. To suggest the carbon bulge fiddles with your jewels is outrageous. I have a pretty solid understanding of anatomy (work in the surgical field) and penises and scrotums just shouldn't be near THAT bulge. You'd have to be EXTREMELY endowed or you have a massive badonkadonk that situates you that far forward in the seat. I'm 5'11, 175lbs and very well endowed and my pp has never touched the bulge. Even if you were so large that your bulge synced up over top of the carbon bulge, you'd have to have some seriously saggy and unsupported stuff for it to be bulge on bulge action. Your thighs could definitely be hitting the bulge, in your hamstring area, but that shouldn't be a male only issue.

TL;DR, your jewels aren't going to dangle on the bulge. it's a sports car, driving around in the standard seats truly looks silly. They are bulky, sofy and slippery. They do not do this car justice. BUY THE BUCKETS

That makes total sense. I was wondering why they were so uncomfy for me when I tried them.

Agreed. These are basically BMW’s
version of Recaro buckets. I tried them and ended up thinking “why would anyone buy these?” But, I’m a big and tall guy. Maybe a smaller person can fit in these comfortably. However, I just loved the old Benz AMG performance seat which was basically the Recaro sportster GT and it doesn’t have the huge side bolsters and the weird center carbon bulge that the BMW has.

I have buckets, 3.5 hrs is my longest drive to date and love them !

One thing I always do in my cars that have had bucket seats is to leave a microfibre towel that I place on the side bolster as I get in and out , this will always make it look new .

You definitely want to do this when you take it in for service. Another thing I do before dropping off a car for work is to put painters tape on the bottom door trim just to make sure it doesn't get scuffed by the Tech.

Yup! I'm in my 60's, average build, and while I want the sportiness and speed of an M car, I want to do it in comfort. No carbon buckets for me!

A G8X without bucket seats isn't a real ///M imho. You feel way more connected to the car compared to pretty much 330i seats. It is a shame to put such seats inside this kind of car. By owning E46 M3 and E92 M3 also, one of the main mods is to change the base seats to aftermarket ones (recaro CS or GT).

Bucket seats are a game changer for M cars. G8X used car values even show it already.

I was on the fence with how I felt about the fact I didnt spec buckets, but a day before delivery a CS came in, and jesus christ theyre beautiful. With that being said though, when I sat in them, the fact i couldnt move my legs, instantly was happy with my choice. Reinforced by now driving my car 200 miles, noticed I definitely prefer having my legs sit wider for comfort. The bolsters do a really good job in the buckets with not letting you move at all. I’m 5’8 and 210. Its really a different answer for everyone. The sport seats are perfect for me to daily.

I'm sorry, but this is complete and utter nonsense. Please stop trying to shame people for their choices. It's unnecessary.

The G8X's are near-4000 lb sport sedans and a GT coupes. They are not sports cars. Bucket seats are unnecessary to "make the car".

Many people are saying that "the spec" for the new 911 ST is to skip the buckets. That it's more of a "touring" spec than the GT3 with Touring package. You going to tell me that if someone is willing to spec their $300k, 9000 RPM flat 6, carbon fetsooned, 2 seat sports car with, "gasp", non-bucket seats that's "the spec", but a G8X isn't a real //M without buckets?

Really? So pretty much every M before the G8X wasn't a real M either? Give me a break.

People don't understand that this is a thing. They say "the buckets are comfortable" and while I say yes, they are pretty comfy when you're in there, not everyone is shaped the same. I have exactly the same problem as you. It's not the thickness of your legs, it's how your pelvis and hips are shaped and, more importantly, what that does to your legs. I don't sit with my legs straight out. I just don't. I'm not built that way. My legs are always angled out. So the lower bolsters on the buckets are way too prominent when I am holding my legs at their natural position, as the front edges are CONSTANTLY cutting into my upper quads.

I feel the opposite. And I have a coupe disc problems in my spine. I find them more comfortable than an over-bolstered non-CB, and the ventilation helps. To each their own. It really comes down to your dimensions and personal preference. I like the lateral support.

Exactly.

Buy what you want.

The buckets are NOT necessary to "make the car". These are wonderful cars and we are lucky to be able to have enough choices to make them individual. There is no one "must have".

Except piano black. Please someone kill that sh!t with fire.
