TSB - Insert of Vehicle Battery

So, I paid my local dealership a visit today to ensure my M4 is not affected by the Main Bearing Shell recall. But in the process not only did they confirmed that my G82 was not affected by the MBS recall, but was affected by the "Battery Insert" TSB. Which apparently, is just a visual check and if need be, they'll order a part to retrofit the insert to better secure the battery.

I wonder how many of our members have had this recall done to their cars.

At least you're not affected by the main bearing shell!

It is not a recall, but a technical service bulletin. This started being done back in November. A relatively small number of G80/82's were found to have been assembled without a pad that is supposed to be installed between the battery and the battery box which helps protect from movement, and possible shorting of the battery due to said movement.

BMW says that they have determined that the battery hold down alone is sufficient to hold the battery firmly in place, but they routinely install the padding as well. Therefore it is not considered a time critical service.

All G80/82's will be inspected for the presence of this padding during their next service visit for whatever reason. If the padding is present nothing will be done. If not, it will be added.

Yeah, you got it bad. I feel sorry for you. Hopefully they'll get your car back to you soon.

Now, for some reason, I still don't feel like I'm in the clear, and not affected by the MBS recall, given the initial built dates where my M4 was included.

Thanks for the clarification. I corrected the title to show it's a TSB and not a 'recall'.

I don’t remember exactly but I think it’s early to mid July to end of August or very early September.

Maybe they're talking about this foam piece/cover around the battery?

Garage List
Dealer did it during my break-in service. It was nothing that was even noted on my receipt.

Dealer checked for the insert last week during the 1,200 mile maintenance. Insert was already in place.
