Question Widest tire width for stock 20" rear wheels?

Hi,

The stock tire is 285/30/20, but I do wonder, the wheel is 10.5" or 11"?

What would be the widest without rub or issues? 305/35/20 would be ok? Looking for the r888rs.

Thanks.

I ordered an 11" and will try and fit a 305.

One caveat … each brand tire fits different. One 305/30/20 may not fit the same an another. Just FYI.

Oh ok, but you ordered an aftermarket 20" rim right? Maybe I should've been more specific, I want to use the stock 20" rims. Looks like they are 10.5" (someone please correct me if I am wrong), so 305 should be fine, but the 35 ratio may be too tall, and the 315/30 may be too wide!

I wish Toyo made the r888r in 305/30 instead of 35.

I think you'd be able to fit a 315, if you really want to.
People are using up to 18mm spacers in the rear, so that means you only have to gain another 12 mm on the inside.

I'd get under the car and check how much clearance you have to shocks, control arms etc.

If you haven't got the extra 12mm (it would surprise me if you didn't) then you can wind on more camber, which will tuck the tops under more.

If these tyres are for the track, more camber will be where you are headed anyway.

If it helps at all, I was able to fit 295/30 tires on the rear in my G80. These are with the style 826m 19 front 20 rears - so for those asking, 295/30/20 should fit no issue. I did have to remove my spacers in the rear though to avoid rubbing - I may not have rubbed, but it was a bit too close for comfort. will post pictures once I have them!

The stock 20" rear wheel is 10.5" wide.

So if u follow rim / tire norms, the max tire u can mount on that width is 295…depending on the tire manufacturer, they sometimes approve one step higher than official norms, so with approval it would then be 305. But for that the tire manufacturer usually want to know the wheel details and car details and then they check if they can approve that for safety reasons.

Are you talking about the stock wheels? I assume not since you had spacers right?

Yeah, the issue with 305 is that it also bumps the ratio from 30 to 35, so it's a larger diameter too.

Yes I think I need to measure if there is enough space, 305/35/20 would be my ideal choice, but not sure if we have that amount of space.

What brand/model of 295/30s did you fit in back? Thanks!

This sounds a bit conservative. For example, I'm looking at Nitro NT-01s in 315/30ZR20 and they spec "Approved Rim: 10.5-(11.0)-11.5" so ideally 11", but 10.5 should still be ok. Im just window shopping so far tho without a car to know how much clearance exists with stock setup.

Yeah get u…that's what I mean…these norms are just some „general hints"…but in the end it depends on the tires and manufacturers what they release the tires for..as everyone is having different tolerances…like some tires that have the same with are sometimes wider from one brand than the other and so on…so your example will probably work well on 10.5"

Highly doubtful the 315 will fit

I had to make the same decision and went with Toyo 285

Do you guys think 315/30-19 will fit a 11 wide wheel (I'd guess offset 10) ?

Combined with a 305/30-19 on a 19x10.5 et10 at the front this would be the ultimate setup.

Altrough running a 305 square on 10.5 would probably be more cost effective and make the car rotate better.

I do think it would fit but very close, and agree square 305 makes better sense.

Was looking around for wheel setups and ran into this thread. I’m running stock comp wheels 19/20 wanted to go with the more meaty drag look ( car makes 680 wheel stock tires don’t hold up anymore) was thinking 305/35/20 m&t et streets any idea if these will fit?

Anyone try 285/35/20 for the rear? That's the closest size the RE-71RS comes in for the rear.
