Does X5 M50i have same brake dust issue as X5 M?

I’m still trying to decide which trim to get. This may help as I already like the practicality of the M50i better.

Yes, both are equally great at dusting. If you don't enjoy constant maintenance, ceramic coating the wheels helps out when you do skip a week or two of cleaning.

I had a '19 40i with M sport brakes and as noted above they had plenty of brake dust. The M is a bit worse but either way you are going to have nasty wheels if you don't stay on top of them. I would not factor brake dust into my decision given negligible difference in my experience.

Two other things to mention. First, you've likely read about brake squeal with M but our 40i with M sport brakes was consistently louder. Second, if you, like me, really fall for the M then keeping up on aesthetic maintenance is a pleasure not a chore.

I replaced my brake pads with ceramic and they produce a lot less dust.

I appreciate that perspective a lot. I do enjoy keeping a new car clean. That said, the enjoyment wains over the years. 1st year, I’m wiping it down damn near daily. Years 2-3, I try really hard to avoid getting it dirty. After year 4, the effort falls off. I clean it when I can. Maybe a $100k car will change that. ;-)

If you coat your wheels with something like C5 Wheel Armor, brake dusts easily washes off.
