Dashcam and radar detector

Just picked up my 2022 M4 from the port in Galveston-happy day!
Can you run a dashcam and radar detector from the mirror power point?
What are you running for dashcam or radar detector?

I run a Valentine 1 Gen 2 from the OBD II port so it can also react differently based on speed readings from the OBD port, and also I don't want to touch any vehicle wiring. All the wiring is concealed easily at trim edges without taking anything off. The detector is mounted on the mirror with a blend mount so it looks all OEM like.

I run a BlackVue front and rear dashcam with power coming from the cig lighter port in the trunk. All the wiring is also similarly concealed. And no vehicle wiring is touched. I will get a inline battery pack soon which I will also tuck away in the trunk for parking mode recording.

It is very important to me that the whole setup had concealed wiring with OEM like outcomes and since I had practice on two prior BMWs, this was a walk in the park. Took 3-4 hours though to tuck wiring into trim.

I’m eventually going Blackvue as well. Can you power the battery pack from the trunk cig lighter as well?

Can you physically do it? Yes. It's cig in and cig out. Are there any power restrictions or other gotchas? No, not that I am aware of. This is my first battery pack.

To get benefit from a Dashcam and its associated parking mode - you really should run the camera with a battery add-on and the trunk location for both battery storage and fuse box/cig adapter connection is the easiest.

Appreciate the detailed feedback. So ultimately two powers sources required which is good to know.
Any significant reason of choosing V1 over Uniden R7?

I agree. The installation with the Blackvue battery pack in the trunk using the cig adapter is the easiest. I did this for the ease of removal back to stock. I would connect the battery pack to your battery if your commute is short. The battery pack needs about 45 mn to an hour to fully charge. I get about 12-24 h in parking mode depending on how often your camera is triggered. The newer BlackVue cameras have a built-in voltage monitoring.

I got mine from the Dashcam Store. They are a Blackvue distributor and will send your camera to Korea if repair is needed. They fixed my old DR650S out of warranty and charged me only $50 plus shipping. I have bought a DR750 and DR900X from them. No tax and 10% off for first time buyer. The discount code is welcome10

Had the Gen1 for many years already. No fuss, works well. Just went with what I knew and liked (non-fussy finish, blends into the car, etc). Don't follow my lead on this - R7 may be objectively better if the exterior appearance is to your liking.

Can you post a picture of your setup? Trying to decide what I want to do when my car finally arrives (week 7 build).

Sure, here you go... There's not much to show where everything's fully tucked in, so I'm adding places where the tuck is not perfect or just exposed (in the trunk).

I bought it off of Amazon (indirectly from the dashcam store) for my last car. I was going to upgrade to the 4K version but people were saying the sensor is not bigger so image quality isn't that much better (just more pixels). And nobody wanted to buy my old cam (which was good enough). So thought I'd save some $500-$600 and reuse what I had, and upgrade later if something a huge step up got released.

The battery pack is just arriving at the end of the week. It's also off of Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07QZ64ZK3/

Thanks! I think that is the exact setup that I am going to go with. Looks really good for not having to remove any trim to conceal the wires.

Correct me if I am wrong, I have seen a "Radar detected" on my 2022 HUD I was impressed by this but also unaware of it being on the car stock… Is it reliable? I cannot seem to find any information on this.
