Installed mine last night. Backed car onto ramps, took a straightened coat hanger and taped the plugs of the longer wire to the end. Pushed through space on top of heat shield until it came out other side. Unwrapped tape and plugged in the passenger side valve connections, tucking wires above and behind valve controller. There is less than 2-3 inches of slack so they don't really hang down. Repeated on drivers side and bolted controller to the top valve bolt. Tucked wires again. Drove car off ramps and then programmed 2 of my mirror buttons to be Open/Auto (mine is set to start at default "auto" functionality). Enjoying louder exhaust at the touch of a button, elapsed time maybe 15mins.

Installed mine this morning with no lift and no ramps. I backed the car up to the end of the driveway and let the ass end hang over, giving just enough room for me to wiggle in there on a large piece of cardboard. This car's rear sits low! But I was able to get it done in about 30 mins. I have yet to program the mirror buttons as I forgot the procedure.

Haven't driven it yet, so can't comment on sound, but taking her out in a few mins to test it out.

Anyone care to enlighten me on the programming sequence for the mirror buttons? I'd rather hear it here rather than having to RTFM.

Hold unprogrammed mirror button, hold remote next to the mirror holding the button you want to program. Done.

You have to hold the 2 end buttons together until a light flashes or something. Then you hold the one you want to program and hit the button on the remote. Repeat the second step for each mirror button you want to program. Don't repeat the first step as it clears everything and you have to start over.

Thanks all, I appreciate the help with the info on programming the buttons. I was able to get the mirror buttons set up thanks to you!

Another quick question; does it matter which side of the vehicle you mount the controller on? I mounted it on the passenger side and now I am reading that at least on the F80, the VSC-2 should go on the driver's side (with the VSC-1 it didn't matter which side).

Edit: Just read through the install instructions and I definitely should have put it on the Driver's side (Doh!) - rookie mistake. I'm going to switch it over later today. I'll neaten up my install as well so its all good.

Not only did I not get a instruction manual, I also didn't get 2 controllers or 2 sets of remotes.

Is it supposed to be 1 set?

It is 1 set, looked it up, kinda forgot what the deal was with it. Was confused from the online instructions.

You should have gotten 2 remotes (look like old school GM car lock remotes)

Garage List
For those of us who can't get Homelink in their interior mirrors, is it possible to purchase a nicer-looking remote and program it using the supplied remote? And if so, what specs would it need to have?

I was an early adapter to the vetteflier method of holding the valve flaps open. The approach works like a charm; is essentially free; and quite simple to perform.

Not sure why, but I was intrigued and wanted to tinker . . . so I ponied up the $200 for the CG Precision VSC-2.

Simply, like vetteflier method, VSC-2 works. Actually, the VSC-2 is about a 10 min project; even easier and quicker than vetteflier method.

Couple comments in response to prior ashiifi post #16 . . .

The VSC-2 controller can be mounted directly to the actuator mount. Simply remove one screw (of three) and use that same screw to mount controller (pic shown below).

Not necessary to remove heat shield. The VSC-2 cord can be fed across opening in in heat shield very easily with a straightened metal hanger.

Is the VSC-2 worth $200 . . . ???

The result is the same. The VSC-2 install is easier to perform and allows you to put the actuator back on (system remains physically intact). The VSC-2 can be turned off if desired (not personally a selling point but could be for someone else).

Overall, I do think most will find the VSC-2 to be worth the $200 spent.

///AVM

EDIT: I do not own a lift or any ramps . . . all of the mods I have ever posted have been done with car planted on ground.

Just got mine and installed it in <10 mins... the coat hanger trick for feeding the long cable through the heat shield through to the passenger side worked well. For those who want to mount the controller on the actuator like ///AVM did above, the bolt size is 10mm. Programmed the homelink buttons to turn turn it on/off.

Did the install on my back in my garage without lifting the car... not the most space to work but it's doable.

Good review by ///AVM. If I could conceive of a situation where I would want the exhaust valves closed--I can't--it would be worth $200. For those who want the option, go for it. I'm hoping the new s/w update will improve the sound even more, as some have claimed.

My SUSPICION is BMW will provide control over ASD, which seems to bother a lot of drivers.

I personally think ASD is great. It is sound amplification, not artificial sound.

At any rate, I think that's about all BMW could do to offer altered acoustics via software upgrade.

Well, I suppose they could also offer valve control, but doubt that is part of the package.

I guess we shall see soon enough. . .

If it matters, I already have the latest update from BMW and still did the VSC mod... my car was a late September build and according to the press release, came with the latest software. There is no extra option to control the ASD buried in a menu or anything. However the car is much louder in Sport+ and the exhaust button "on" than in comfort and it "off".

The VSC controller still improved the sound when I open the valves and it does seem most of the sound I hear in the cabin is actual exhaust noise.. when I am in comfort and open the valves using the controller, it sounds basically identical to the car in sport+, except now in sport+ the burbles are a bit more audible, which I like... it now sounds more like my M2 did.

I installed this about 2 weeks ago. I used a lift and it took literally 10 minutes. I didn't have to remove or unbolt anything I ran the harness through the heat shield cover and used a small rod to fish it through. I unbolted 2 screws that appeared to do nothing to mount the little controllers to.

This does actually throw codes, it wont show a check engine light but when I used the code reader on JB4 it shows

138110
138111

which seem to be codes for the exhaust valves.

I can confirm it does open the exhaust valve all the way at all times, I made a mistake when ordering mine and forgot to opt for "open" and "oem" control so I got the default "open" and "closed" with no inbetween.

I'm still waiting on my Valvetronic midpipe and I think paired with this controller it should be the best combo since oem never actually opens the flap all the way and modulates it depending on speed and rpm.

Yes, for those who have not opened valves it is a subtle, yet, apparent difference. As stated previously, it does not offer increased decibels, just constant access to maximal decibels . . . which equates to perception of increased decibels.

I actually think the stock G80C acoustics are fantastic, both what emanates from under the hood and out the exhaust pipes. Not chasing louder BUT, if I were . . . I suspect the mid-pipe with VSC-2 would provide just about the perfect retention of stock tone with a bit more decibels.

The only exhaust mod I have not heard and I am interested to hear is the muffler delete, e.g., AWE Track exhaust if/when it is ever released.

Me too. Muffler delete is the only exhaust I'd be interested in--especially if it came with tuned resonators like B&B's Bullets for Vettes.

Hello. I just ordered mine from x-ph. My G82 is going to be lowered tomorrow on Eibach springs (20mm). Anyone who has lowered their car installed this? I am guessing I will need some sort of a lift?
