How much are you paying to install springs?

I have got a few quotes on installation of the mss springs with alignment. The highest one ive got they were telling me they need to replace bolts because according to bmw they are one time use? Not sure how true that is.
Wanted to see how much you all have paid to install springs.

I did my own. Should take a mechanic with air tools no more than 3 hours to replace the springs, and that's being generous.

$250 for MSS install… He even installed my body coloured side markers at the same time and that was included in the price

It's less than two hours work. Maybe even closer to one and a half hours

Some of these quotes are completely outrageous.
I'm in NYC too, not in some back water

All my quotes have been $700+ and the shops tend to quote BMW "book time". Ridiculous.

There's a mod-friendly BMW dealership around me that told me this same thing regarding the one-time use bolts. So with my M2, I overpaid and went with them.

I know if you order the OEM M2 M Performance suspension, there's an option to buy a hardware kit for $95 or so... so this one-time use bolt thing seems to be legit, at least for the M2. Even in this thread on the M2 forums, the guy calls out that a ton of folks miss this step of replacing the one-time use bolts: https://f87.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1595398

On the flip side, it seems that almost everyone doesn't replace these and I haven't heard of any issues across multiple platforms.

I worked on F-16s in the Military, for 20 years, and we used 1 time use bolts, extensively. Not following instructions, on something like this, is a risk that would haunt me, until I corrected it. Just based on my history with 1 time use hardware, in the past.

Agreed, being an engineer, I err on the side of caution and knowing there are one-time TTY bolts that need to be replaced doesn't sit right with me if I know they aren't replaced. That's why I paid up on the M2 to ensure they were replaced.

About 450 - 500 seems to be the going rate. I was quoted 450 with alignment.

I believe stretch bolts are used when dropping the rear arms as it has been with all my previous cars. It is best to put in new ones because if you retorque them past what they were from the factory, they can weaken or break.

That being said, I didn't replace mine because I was not able to source them. I will eventually replace them later on this year.

Its really a 2 hour job but lets talk billables as the shops need to make profit there---I think 3 hours is fair to bill at their rate. Its really quite easy though with no back seat pull. This is for standard plug and play springs but a HAS system will require some finer tuning which means up and down on the rack a few times.

r33_RGSport charged me 17 hours cause he needed to put the spacers on too LOL

(and he likes my presence)

Would you mind PMing me who did your install? So far I was quoted $600 and $900 just for springs, not even the MSS kit.

Mine was $300 but I needed to go to another shop for alignment for $80. So total cost was $380. Took my mechanic about two hours to install

Some of the quotes mentioned here are just ridiculous.

Takes a few hours + alignment, should not be over $500

Thank you! I contacted three garages in Houston and EMG was by far the most reasonable. They also seem to have a good reputation working with M cars, which is reassuring. I've listed a breakdown of the two most reasonable shops for anyone in Houston seeking a spring kit installation + alignment. The third shop, I prefer not to disclose and at over $2,000 it is not realistic anyway.

European Motor Gruppe (EMG)
Installation: $750
Alignment: $150

E1 Motorsports
Installation: $1,050
Alignment: $199
