IND | Fall-Line Motorsports G8X M3 / M4 Suspension Suite

While the initial consensus of the G8x driving dynamics was that it was vastly superior to the previous M3 and M4; mostly from better shock dampening, there is definitely room for improvement. One of our first plans with the new chassis was to turn to our partners at Fall-Line Motorsports to develop the best suite of suspension components for the new G8x M3 and M4.

From years of competitive race experience, Fall-Line has become synonymous with producing not only championship caliber race cars, but the finest suspension components that help propel them to victory.

Almost as soon as we took delivery of our G82 M4 last year, the car went straight into development. We're excited to share the initial results:
  • A new front strut brace retaining single-piece front v-brace
  • New solid billet aluminum rear tension arms anodized in a military spec hard coat
  • 3 options for rear toe arms, all hard coat anodized:
    • Single piece to retain factory eccentric adjustment
    • Standard adjustable arms
    • Race-version adjustable arms
  • The requisite front mono ball conversion
  • Lower control/camber arm inner and outer spherical bearings

The Strut Brace

Like the factory strut brace, the new Fall-Line Motorsports strut brace retains the superior single piece V-brace to connect the strut towers to the front-end. This ensures maximum strength to minimize chassis flex and body roll under load, aspiring confidence through corners on the circuit and off.

To retain the stronger single-piece design, it was necessary to machine each front v-brace out of a massive piece of aircraft-grade billet aluminum. The chamfered-edge cut-outs not only maximize strength and minimize weight, but the design was taken from the shape of the front grille for an added touch of aesthetics.

The brace comes in 2 finishes—Anodized Hard Coat Clear and Anodized Hard Coat Black—and is available with upgraded hardware from ARP.

Rear Lower Tension Arm Set

Fall-Line's new G8X / F8X lower tension arms are designed to make significant improvement to the cast OEM pieces; as motorsport parts, both strength and longevity were priorities—to do just that, the single-piece Fall-Line replacements are CNC machined from aircraft-grade billet aluminum and finished in a military spec hard coat anodizing. These arms boast the largest FK spherical bearings on the market available—by eliminating rubber from a critical feedback area of the car, you gain control over the tire’s behavior and thereby confidence behind the wheel at the limit.

Fixed or Adjustable Rear Toe Arm Sets

A byproduct of multi-link suspension arrangements is a dynamic change in the car’s alignment settings—when making an adjustment to one attribute like camber, track width and toe will follow. This is especially true for the G8x and F8x cars, as the original BMW camber eccentric bolt has a major impact on toe as well. Alignments are made faster and simpler when using a set of aftermarket lower arms, enabling the alignment tech to easily reset toe after adjusting camber.

The race-version toe links utilize a unique clamp-style fastener system as seen in BMW’s own tie rods and Porsche Motorsport components, tightening the adjustment arm in place with no stretch of the hardware or change of alignment. Less expensive jam-nut designs limit precision and can't always guarantee the alignment won't change when the jam-nut is tightened. Laser cut lockout washers correctly eliminate the original BMW adjustment, eliminating any unwanted movement in the system.

However, for situations where the factory eccentric adjustment must be retained, either due to race class limitations or just personal preference, the Fall-Line Motorsports solid arms can be installed in the toe arm position, retaining the factory eccentric bolt while upgrading to a much stronger arm with included spherical bearings.

Finally, adjustable race toe arm features clamp-style fastener:

Front Mono Ball Conversion

Fall Line’s mono ball spherical bearing conversion kit transforms the front steering and suspension feel of the M3/M4. The factory rubber bushing is very large, and is prone to substantial deflection under load, as the car is put through its paces. Deflection of the bushing can create unwanted geometry change, steering wobble under braking, and even hysteresis of the thrust arm.

The bearing’s housing is precision machined from aluminum, to create a rigid part that allows for the M3/M4’s thrust arm to move smoothly through its range of suspension travel. The improvement in steering and suspension feel is immediate and truly enhances the personality of the new G8x.

Rear Control/Camber Arm Inner and Outer Bearings

Rubber bushings found in the latest M Cars' rear camber arms are the last weak link in an otherwise rigid suspension. Fall-Line's new lower control arm bearings yield a significant improvement over the factory bushings; Fall-Line boasts the largest FK spherical bearings on the market by using a full stainless bearing assembly: hats, bearing, housing, and spiral locks. The latter feature—to adequately cope with competition-level load—Fall-Line bearings feature stainless steel spiral locks that offers 360 degrees of clamping force to secure the bearing from any potential movement.

As an added benefit, the spherical bearings will outlast the OEM rubber variants, saving the headache of repeated replacement over your ownership. As with any elimination of suspension bushings, more direct feedback can equate to a slight increase in noise, vibration, and harshness after installing these parts.
