tint causing idrive/infotainment dimming.

So I had 30% tint installed on my m3 recently and all of the sudden my infotainment and gauge cluster are super dim, is there a way to override the auto dimming and get it to brighten back up? It's driving me crazy.

Did you already turn up the knob next to the headlight switch?

Yup, for some reason it's auto dimming despite it being set for full bright at nighttime.

When I'm in direct sunlight its bright but if the sun isn't directly on the drivers it auto dims until I'm back in full light. I just want the auto dimming to stop

I only see a setting for brightness for the Control Display. It says brightness at night. I don't think this will help, but maybe turn this up all the way and see if it helps.

You see that setting?

This is a problem on the g20 to, some people figured out a way to wire a small light to the light sensor but it looks tacky. From what I know no settings are available to change this.

This was/is a pretty big problem with the G01/G02s as well. I don't think anyone ever found an actual OEM style solution other than to have the tint removed.

I haven't noticed any issues with my tint so far (XPEL XR Ceramic 20% all around & 70% on the windshield). Is yours a ceramic tint?

Did you look at the brightness setting I mentioned? It says brightness at night. Try turning that to full brightness

I did indeed, the brightness at night setting is turned up all the way but it's still not the same as full daylight brightness. When I get real frustrated I've been shining my cellphone light on the sensor to get it to brighten up.

I wonder if there is a way to code this setting out using bimmercode

From what I have gathered it all depends on the tint film used. Some people report no problems some do.

I notice this a bit with 35% Stek on my X5. I don't notice this at all with 50% 3M Crystalline on my M4. In case the brand of film matters as someone pointed out in the thread.

It's a known issue with no OEM solution. Just some tacky workarounds that I don't want to have anything to do with.

Haven't noticed anything like this, my windows are tinted all around with 25% FormulaOne Pinnacle minus the windshield.

Guessing this is something that can be coded in esysX but may be difficult to impossible in Bimmercode. If it can be done in Bimmercode it will have to be done in advanced mode.

Don't think u can code that with Bimmercode in the easy way, if possible at all, needs to be done in advanced mode, but for that u would need to know what needs to be changed. I would not mess around in the advanced mode, u can break a lot of things there.

I would ask some coding guys and spend the money with them, instead on bimmercode (if your main goal is only the dimming, otherwise bimmercode is nice, but not much things you can do on the G8X).

Check the g20 forums. People have tried resolving this issue with no solution. Don't check the g20 forums anymore but last I was there no solution has been found.

I have 5% ceramic and 50% ceramic on the windshield and have no issues at all. I don’t really see how the brand of tint could affect it differently since it’s a light source problem apparently. That would be aggravating not being able to see the cluster during the day
