OEM Tire Thread!

From one of the BMW M videos we know that there are multiple different tires that will be OEM for the G8x. We've also seen pics with a lot of cars sitting on Pirelli P Zero. So what do we know about the OEM tire options that will represent tire roulette on new G8x?

Contenders:
1) Michelin PS4S
2) Pirelli P-Zero (are there different models?)
3) Continental (Sport Contact 6?)
4) Yokohama (wtf which one?)
5) Michelin PSC2 (optional track tire)

My clear choice here is PS4S as it is far and away the best street summer tire ever IMO. What percentage of cars will be equipped with PS4S and will a car will a different tire be inferior?

My vote has to go with Michelin PS4S as well. A lot of my friends run a set on their cars because of the fact that they find it quiet, durable, and fuel-efficient.

Clear favorite is PS4S, currently running them on my M2 and the best tire I had so far compared to Pirelli P-Zero or older Michelin PSS.

This is hard to guess, BMW has deals with various tire manufacturers, which one you get simply depends on what they have in stock when your car gets build. They get batches with tires, so can be that one week all get PS4S, the other P-Zero and so on...

I really hope for the PS4S on mine. I went from P-Zero to PS4S on the Aston and the difference is really night and day. I have Cup 2s on the RS because it's my track car, but it's just not worth the price difference for a road car and they wear out so fast I swear Michelin is sending someone in the middle of the night with a razor blade to scrape off tread.

There were 7 M Cars in the dealership waiting to be picked up when I went to take delivery, only once car the only Coupe had the Michelins.

Out of 3 cars at local dealership, all Pirelli P-zero. Most pictures also show Pirelli so it looks like currently that is the predominant tire.

I'd imagine a lot of people will be switching to a 295 rear tire on the RWD models considering the rear wheel is 20x10.5. 285 is slightly undersized honestly for that width.

Another vote for Michelin PS4S since I haven't tried to run 3 of the options that you listed above.

The M3 I test drove had PS4S, but the guy who was picking up his M3 had P-Zero, along with another M4 inside the showroom. I also hope for PS4S, otherwise will replace around 10K.

i lost the lottery and got p zero pz4 ... oh well will just try these out and swap to PS4S after reasonable use

i do wonder if folks are planning on going wider in the rear, I see in the F97/98 forum folks are swapping out stock 255/265 set up for 265/295 and reported very positive results.

There does appear to be a PS4S in size 295/30/20. If I were swapping Pirellis for Michelins, I think I would do that small upsize in the back. This would not be a BMW "star" tire though so I don't know what difference that makes.

I did do the upsize 265/295 from 255/265 on my X3MC and that is a much more substantial change.

Just adding to this my M3C standard seats, no cf exterior came with Pzero. All the cars at my dealer (m4/m3) had pzero.

The rear Pzero option of 285/30/20 is that a special size/width much like the Michelin SS were on the F8x chassis?

Personally, it just doesn't look like right with 10.5" rear wheel.

Reviving this thread with an update as I was wondering myself, and couldnt find an answer on the forums. For my winter tires, I was able to fit a 295/30 tire on the rear in my G80. These are with the style 826m 19 front 20 rears - so for those asking, 295/30/20 should fit no issue. I did have to remove my spacers in the rear though to avoid rubbing - I may not have rubbed, but it was a bit too close for comfort. will post pictures once I have them!

Question:

Are the P-zero tires runflat or regular?

I recently crossed the 500-mile mark, and I noticed a gouge on the front passenger tire. I haven't run over anything significant that could have caused this. Could it be a tire defect? I've contacted the dealer to inquire if it's possible to have it covered under the manufacturer's warranty. I'm just waiting to hear back from them.

If they are still the stock tires, they are not runflat.

The gouge you mentioned is still in the thread of the tire, so it shouldn't cause you any issues. It hasn't reached the carcass.
