All season tire question on G80 xdrive

Since winter set up is pretty much impossible to find, what all seasons would you recommend? I pick up my G80 in St Louis on 1/03 and we dont get a ton of snow but wondered what other people are doing in the midwest? I work from home so I wont be using it when terrible weather is expected but the weather can change quickly and dont want to get stuck on summer tires. Continental DWS 06 or Michelin pilot sport all season 4? or any other option suggested?

Just put Continental DWS 06 plus on my M4. Very happy with them so far. The plus version is supposed to better in the snow…we'll see.

I have had the DWS on another car. They are a pretty good tire and you'd probably get more tread life out of them vs the Michelins. That said, you'll also notice the softer sidewalls on them. Hard to go against any premium Michelin product right now.

Very interested to hear in members responses. I prefer to have only have one set of tires that can be used in the summer and colder days in the winter.

I would probably go with the Conti DWS. I feel they will have better winter traction while the Michelin will out perform it in the try.

Im in STL and went with the Michelin and love them. I got them mostly as you know weather can change fast. this is not A primary snow car so might only play with the M3 if it snows

winter setups are not impossible to find, just hard to find but the Michelins PA-5s are out there. Check Costco. however, for occasional use, all seasons are fine.

I’m starting to consider doing the same for my car. I’ve lived in Central TX for the last 11 years and in the last few, we’ve seen a fair number of cold days. Morning lows in the high 20’s. It’s not a huge deal but I don’t like the idea of driving on hockey pucks when I need to go out.

Decided to make a G83 donut run yesterday morning in 25 degree weather and it was chaos. Just driving on a small hill country curve at 40 mph with the OEM Michelins was a scary no grip experience.

Drove back home, parked the convertible in the garage and made some pancakes.

Hockey pucks brake about as well as they go around corners, so be careful in a straight line, too. The syrup on your pancakes are stickier than summer tires in cold, dry weather.

+1 on the Michelins (though I was fortunately tipped in August to order my winter tires then, vs. waiting).

Pancakes are delicious. I know…I should put syrup on my tires on cold mornings.

Lots of people are recommending the Michelin PS All Season 4, but it doesn't seem to be available in stock sizes. I'm running the base 19/18" wheels, and I could get them...as run-flats in the back and non-run-flats in the front. Someone in another thread mentioned rubbing while reversing with larger tires up front. Any suggestions for sizing?

I am a Michelin man through and through, but this problem prompted me to defect to Continental DWS06+ for my 18/19 setup. No complaints although I've not driven them in snow at all -- just dry cold. OE sizing.

Yeah, I used to visit Texas for work all the time pre pandemic and the roads down there are absolute chaos if you get some freezing weather or a temperature drop.

I remember leaving the airport late one night and there was multiple cars flipped over along the high way. Summer tires and people not used to driving in icy conditions is a recepie for disaster

Not what you would expect in Texas but cold weather is cold weather

It’s pretty comical down here when it gets cold. I lived in SE Michigan for the majority of my life and am no stranger to cold conditions but the folks down here lose it when it gets cold and heaven forbid icy.

Having said that…I’m no dummy and this morning was a good example…it was 34 outside and I had to drive my wife to work. The tail end was a little happy in turns with throttle application.

My AS wheel/tire setup will be welcome.

I am in MN in the middle of winter. I have Michelin all seasons PA4. I am very satisfied and would highly recommend this set up for those that bring out there cars when it is dry. I prefer this set up as I can hammer the car when the roads are clear and, enjoy. Doing this type of driving on winter tires is not really fun at all.

Glad I found this thread. I've had the internal struggle of deciding to do a separate summer/winter setup for when I order the G80, or just a set it and forget it all-season setup.

In doing some research I haven't really found good options for winter tires in OEM size, so I'm thinking maybe I'll stick to an all-season setup PS4/DWS06. I won't be tracking the car, my only concern will be with a RWD car in the snow... but I guess a few sandbags in the trunk should help it out.
