DIY: Thinkware U1000 Dashcam Install + Radar & Battery
Some quick pictures of my dashcam install in the G80 which is almost a carbon-copy install of my previous DIY on the F80 (https://f80.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1216041)
The wire routing is essentially exactly the same except that the G80 battery and main fuse boxes are flipped between under the trunk floor vs the passenger side trunk areas compared to the F80. With the addition to the radar module now on the U1000, parking mode lasts 4-6 days with the external battery which is perfect for airport parking scenarios or weekend street-side parking for those of you who have those situations. The external battery fits neatly in the passenger-side trunk cubby and the wire routed easily with no drilling or punching holes. Ground for the system was tapped to the frame next to the battery retaining guard. Fuse was the #273 20a which turns off 7 or 10min after car shutoff I believe.

This is perfect! I’m about to install the U3000 and was looking for G80 specific intructions. Question: I see you only have one wire tapped into the fuse but many install videos show both a red (always on) and yellow (ACC) wire being tapped. Why is yours only the one? I am using a backup battery like yours as well. Lastly, did you have to extend your wiring kit at all? Blackbox My Car said I might have to for the G80🤷🏻‍♂️. Thanks!

Hi! Yep. I did the install. So, with the U3000 there was just one red wire with a fuse piggyback and one ground wire. So it was super simlple. Pretty much play/play. Basically follows the pics here from the OP.
Also, I did not need additonal wire. There was plenty to reach from front to back and then some!
