Recommendation: Blackstone Labs Oil Analysis
In anticipation of my first service, at 1,200 miles, and the fact that its a break in service, I've ordered testing kits to have an oil sample analyzed by Blackstone Laboratories.
After spending 20 years in the Airforce, as an F-16 Crew Chief, I understood decades ago, the importance of sampling engine oil. We had to get a sample of engine oil burned, after every flight. Getting your oil sample analyzed, burns all of the oil off, and leaves the ferrous metals behind for collecting. Then getting the ferrous metals analyzed to determine the quantity of particles in the sample. For the people that may not understand the importance of this test, it tallies everything left behind when burning the oil off, and allows you to determine where certain types of metal came from. Copper, Aluminium, Zync, Iron, Molybdenum, etc. For the people worried about your main bearing shells, this sample can determine if there is an unusual amount of bearing material present, and alert you to an issue that may manifest itself in the future. So, for those interested, head on over to Blackstone Laboratories, order your free sample testing kits. The oil analysis, is $30 for the testing, however, the sampling kits, and return shipping, are free. Disclaimer: I am in no way affiliated with Blackstone Laboratories. Simply passing on the information. https://www.blackstone-labs.com/

Several things:
1. One sample doesn't mean anything. You need 3-5 to establish trend. 2. Oil analysis is primarily analysis of oil, nit engine. Without doing TBN and TAN, it is useless. So not $30, but $50. |

It's only my first oil change on the car, so, I'll be getting them all done.

So now instead of worrying about your main bearing shells, you can worry about some other random metal value that will undoubtedly come back a little higher than normal

Well, it's called OCD. I blame the military. We burned oil samples after every flight, and I retired in 2015. maybe I miss it?
