For example, I'm now in the market for the replacement for my 540i as the daily driver and grocery getter. Suddenly, the dimension and weight of the new M3/M4 isn't all that ridiculous. The powerplant, the easy to drive, and the look factor will influence my decision much more.

With a RWD platform, I can still accomplish most of what XDrive affords, simple by selecting some season-appropriate tires and using a dash of common sense.. |

The take rate of the manual gearbox is still kinda significant in certain markets such as the USA, though. If it wasn't for Americans, I suspect there would be no manual in BMW M cars and Porsches, for example. F80 M3 6MT take rate was 19.4% worldwide; of those 5,426 6MT cars ever built were 4,548 sold in the USA alone (84%). I suspect the numbers for this generation are going to be slightly lower as AWD now being available will sway some people over to the auto-only Competition model. I agree in that the introduction of forced induction and - more recently - AWD attracted a new, different group of M GmbH buyers who prefer to go in a straight line rather than round a twisty road or a track. But the industry-wide battles in lap times and magazine acceleration times are also partially to blame here. With M cars pushing over 500rwhp now comes great demand for traction and you know how many people complain about traction or lack thereof on the F80 and F10M boards.

Well the LCI for the G80 should be 2023 if it follows the historical trend of the F80. But if it does there "could" be a 2.0 LCI as it will get the updates from the 3 then the 4 if the front ends get updated.

Would require tons of investment and costs with little return - or like Porsche, or the other exotic DCTs the cost is given to the buyer.
The only way BMW would be game for it is if they could use it across all cars and SUVs. But DCTs are rarely used in SUVs that have a potential to tow, and DCTs can be limited for high torque/hybrid powertrains/AWD unless designed from the ground up day one for it. |

This is the first time I see the new cluster layout - I think this is a lot better than the M340i layout with the rev counter on the right hand side. This however, I could live with - a bit more along the lines of AMG and Audi.

For a given damping level, shorter tyre wall enables softer damping, at back it improves traction. At front, taller tyre wall leads to stiffer damping which minimize nose dip (understeer). In summary, the combo is engineered to maximize traction and control over/understeer bias.

AWD late 2021 / early 2022. I think someone on here mentioned this timeline a few months ago and got blasted for it, but they may actually be right.

With an increased engine HP/torque output to justify the MxDrive.
