as to why, pretty easy decision once you get past the looks... the competition is either getting long in the tooth (W205 C63, RCF), not dynamic enough (B9 RS5), or missing overall execution at being a good "car" (def talking Giulia QF, maybe the Cadillac Blackwing as well based on V-series reviews so far).

Did look at Porsche. Specifically very intrigued by the Cayman GTS 4.0. But a very disciplined "poverty" spec with few features would still run you >100k CAD. Maybe when I can have 2 cars I shall source one Also asked about a Macan GTS, funny thing is for about same price as this you are giving up a lot of power and performance for the Porsche "chassis magic" and the badge.

And on pricing, this car is very well priced in Canada vs competition. I just hope leasing numbers aren't as atrocious as they are on F97/F98 for 2021....
I'm having a hard time with other options as well. I'm not totally in love with the G80 but at the same time it's still a compelling package in its price range. True, the C8 is probably going to be faster etc but it's not exactly my cup of tea either.

The GTS 4.0 is also a consideration but I have the same concerns about the price.

true yea the C8 is intriguing too. Have not tested water on that market in my area, but I'd assume it's MSRP or over. Once that tap is open, hard not to consider ZL1 or Shelby and that's when the competitive set gets too big and blurry

I did ask around about the the GTS 4.0 ... no allocations available yet (car is not even EPA rated apparently) but dealers are taking deposits. Pricing gonna be very "take it or leave it" is the feeling I got.

The design, and S58.
But I’ll wait for the reviews, I won’t buy if it’s as insanely stiff as X3M that I test drove.

The look is still lukewarm to me, but growing. My state also doesn't require front plates thankfully.

I've moved to a climate where snow will be a much bigger issue than it has been for me in the past, so I need AWD. Another of my "must haves" after missing out on it in my 335is and M4 are ventilated seats. I was looking at getting an RS5 if they have ventilated seats in the new 2020.

Now that I know the new G82 has both AWD and ventilated seats, I'm sold. I love my M4 so this will be a good continuation and upgrade. I was very close to getting an X4M but the more I thought about it, I just couldn't imagine a car like that being one I'd want to just jump in for a weekend drive.

Short of it being a 10-sec car with just a tune, I don't have much more to contribute. I passed on the F80 since it didn't do anything for me coming from an E92 M3. The G80's incredible interior, improved sound, about ~500whp stock, manual (less power not a main concern) and bucket seats bring me back to the E36 M3 era with the Vader seats. It's almost a mini-M5 with the best an M3 can offer.

So, nostalgia. That's why.

Now tell me with hand on heart that the driving experiences will be comparable, or the looks of the m4 really seduce you over that of a 992. For the final nail in the coffin, which do you think will pose the better resale prospect?

So I reiterate the question from the OP, why are you guys doing this to yourselves?

The only way I will go back to BMW for another m4 is if they discount it by £10000... Little hope for that.
I'm lucky enough to drive a ton of Porsches every month for work and I really love them but I enjoyed driving my F80 M3 more than any 991.2 or 992 Carrera or Carrera S PLUS it has room for four adults in it and is a civil daily compared to any 911. If I could afford a GT3 it would be a different story but as of now (with obviously 0 seat time in a G80) I'm assuming the new car will still be more enjoyable to me on top of the fact that my config for a G80 will likely be somewhere around $80k vs. $120k for a 992 Carrera which I can't afford anyways.

I have not decided that I will buy one but just recently picked up a 718 GT4 which is my weekend/track car so this would be a daily type practical car. I certainly don’t expect the G to deliver the caliber of experience or performance of a high rev, manual transmission car that is well under 3200 lbs. It would be for when I need the space and AWD.
I need to see the G80 in person. The grills and entire front look uninspiring in the photos, but the rest looks good. I also want to see pricing because I have a fundamental problem with a 90/100/110K M3 since they don’t retain value well, but leasing would be an option since BMW does heavily pump the programs, massive discounts and artificially high residual with low money which is advantageous for buyers.
