Some quick concepts i just photoshopped last night-still working on CAD modeling

The black piece under was just me imagining what the grille would look like not split at the bottom

would not change aero as BMW currently just has matte plastic there.

excuse my photoshop skills as i don't know how to shading and light work - so the color looks off but I got it as close to possible as what I imagined it'd look like minus the reflectivity around the car

need a physical bumper to see where multiple clip points could be made

if the design doesn't look appealing to forum members i won't produce it - but for me personally I like it.

In the end sensors would be incorporated into it so that people don't have to deal with the parking chime :

Sorry, but it just doesn’t work. Kinda looks like just a patch over the grill.

What a boring design, why does every renderer want it to look like the previous generation?

Just buy a damn F80 if you miss it that much

I have an F80 that's almost out of warranty, and may be jumping to a G8X once they come out. Not that my opinion matters, but I'm waiting for an aftermarket option to come out before I buy the car. I like the idea of that plate filler, but would rather an G15-like grill design.

Maybe just a little bit of separation. Not so it stands out as much as above.

I have yet to see this car in person but even so I think the grills work well with the design. It looks way better in videos than any render or photos, so in real life I’m sure it will look even better.

For those that don’t like the drastic change in the grills, I don’t think this is the solution. How is this improving the overall design of the grills being larger? This isn’t for me so I wouldn’t purchase it, but I appreciate your effort and look forward to the final product. To me, it just looks stuck on and out of place but I guess I’ll have to see the final outcome.

This add-on will end up impeding one of the PDC sensors, which I assume now comes standard, at least in the US..

If I was buying the car I'd consider looking at it, but probably still not do it. On a leased car though it definitely wouldn't be worth the cost to buy it, swap it and then swap it back to turn it in.

Because previous gen looked good and was classic. The new car looks like a try hard Civic Type R and Lexus F hybrid monstrosity.

im curious to see what rolls out as far as aftermarket. For me that would be too big of a mod/design change to most likely go with.

Right... I thought those were sensors. Putting in a hole would look worse. Moving it up may work. It was just a quick mock-up for another thread looking to break the large grill up a bit. I personally wouldn't bother with a mod of any type.

I think the grille's are fine. The more we see them the more we will adjust and the reality is that few of us have even seen the cars live yet and everyone says they look better in person. That said I'm sure LCI tweaks will make for the best version of this car as is the case for most BMW's.

Why change the design of the car? If it bothers someone that much, don't buy the car. Plenty of other automakers you can choose from. Said it before, for every one person that hates the design there are two that will. BMW will be ok and they won't make it catering to a select group of people. I wore Timberland boots but outgrew them. My wife has been with me for thirty years and may trade me in for a new improved brand.
