It’s so true.
It’s also slightly problematic in the states as anytime there is a wide open road I want to be doing 100.

The car is incredibly competent at 100. It feels so planted, rooted to the ground, safe.

I didn’t say it was, 100 is still 100. If I had wings I could fly.

But, it FEELS so confident at speed.
Totally agree with that piece. There’s about, zero difference between 60 and 100mph for the g80.

Yes, they are correct. IOMG 6MT is the perfect spec.

What? Biased opinion? Well... Oh, okay.

Good read…Guess I’ll set my expectations to change the rear tires around 14,000 miles.
I’m at approximately 13k after 1 year. Works out to a fresh set every spring. With the amount of road trips I take it’s worth the investment.

Car is a fantastic 2022 G80 6MT

Interesting how much performance it lost with 40k miles.

Love the love for the base 6MT version of this car. I know I wouldn't have it any other way (even if the vast majority of owners disagree).

They said in the article that the nearly-worn-out tires had a significant impact on the final testing.

Now that this generation of M3 has been out awhile I've read and seen many reviews. Seems the steering and transmission in either guise but especially the 6mt are not up to par to some of the competitors. Also in comparing to others like the Blackwings and now getting older by the minute Guilia the suspension is probably another area that gets picked on. Especially with GM's magnetic ride. Chassis is better as well with those two.

What is better though is that sublime S58 powertrain and the overall package of the M3. The fit and finish. The materials etc. And lets be honest the M3 is behind in some categories to the competition but not by that much to forgoe it to them? Cadillac has made a lot of strides with the blackwing interior and I don't mind it but the M3 is just that much better to me. The M3 feels more special. I absolutely love the Guilia and test drove a few of them including the Stelvio quad but the build quality and lack of quality interior hurt it for me. That archaic infotainment system in the Alfa was ridiculous. I still drool over the Guilia though. I just love the looks.

If your looking for just driving dynamics the others probably fit the bill much better but for me the M3 has enough of everything to stand out and the aftermarket is substantially better for BMW than the others.

I’m biased…

I’m 100% M3.

If I was not driving the M3 I’d be driving a Lexus ES250 AWD on 15 inch rims tire pressure at 25psi.

I agree it seems like it was due to tire / grip. The quarter mile trap is the same.

What's really weird is the 130-150mph time improved from 6.9 to 6.2. 100-0 braking also improved by nearly 10 ft. Which shouldn't happen on a shot tire.

C&D list the 2022 M3 6MT curb weight at 3789 lbs

I guess I never realized the relatively LITTLE weight gain the G80 M3 6MT had over the E90 M3 6MT - considering all the safety and tech advancements over the past 13+ years!

When the G80 M3 came out everyone was up in arms about how much MORE it weighed and how “bloated” it was. For the Comp/XDrive version, sure. But if you compare apples to apples, it’s just not true.

G80 M3 6MT - 3789 lbs
E90 M3 6MT - 3726 lbs

Even the 2008 335Xi 6MT coupe I owned had a curb weight of 3759 lbs! Of course, that car had 2 fewer doors and XDrive so not apples to apples but just illustrating a point.

To be fair the E90 is also not an apples to apples comparison since it had a big 4.0L V8. A better comparison is the F80 M3 6MT which came in at 3,515 lbs. So compared to that, yeah the G80 is quite a bit heavier at ~274lbs difference.

the e39 m5 is another one people forget about. it was a porker at 3990 pounds. the f90 m5cs is only 100 pounds more at 4096.

Car weights can be very option dependent though. The e90 m3 didn't get the option of a cf roof, ceramics, or carbon seats like the g80. most e90s had a sunroof as well.

if the f82 had the option of carbon seats it could probably get in the 34xx range.

You know what’s crazy is the m2 weights more than the G80 m3 manual. I think the reviews for the new M2 will be similar with a slight more rear end playfulness. I ponder if there is some after market steering update that would make it better similar to what happened with the F87 steering adjustments.

This may not be particularly relevant... but that's a pretty poor 1/4 mile time...

even the trap speed at 116 mph is equivalent to a prior gen M2 Comp which has 70 less hp... so either someone doesn't know how to drive or holy cow the 6mt is way slower than the comps

Very fair take...M3 is the most sensible and likely has the most attractive leases/residuals in its segment as well. And the option for an MT.

I think this car is basically 2 cars.

Any die hard manual driver will most probably like this car, let alone knowing there is no other manual alternative on the market (and this is a fantastic manual car).

Automatic drivers have more options in the market to choose from and can afford to be more opinionated since they have more competitors to compare it to.
