I thought I'd better elaborate on such a long delivery time because my home town is only 75 miles away from the port. I am getting the cars PPF and coatings applied as part of the pre-delivery service as the Dealer and the PPF shop have a business relationship. So when I collect the car it will be good to go.

I will ask the dealer about getting a wheel alignment done, because my last car (not a BMW) was seriously misaligned when I picked it up from the dealer and I didn't notice until the steel belt on my front right wore through the sidewall. Compared with how much Michelins cost a wheel alignment is an excellent investment.

Straykiwi Good idea with the alignment. I had that done on my M3 and it was indeed a little off.

In other news, I have almost 1,100 miles on my car and have break-in scheduled for this Wednesday.

I'm at the dealership now getting break-in service performed. Afterwards, I can't wait to use all 473hp in stop and go traffic getting home.

Straykiwi Looks fabulous, congratulations!

Yup same thing happened to me after break in service haha

You’ll have to find a nice spot to try launch control once traffic dies down.

I’m not even at 600 miles yet lol. I’m hoping by mid June I’ll have my break in miles done: I need more excuses to go out for a drive apparently.

Haha I know! Between work and this 2 week long training im attending next week and vacation after that it’s taking me some time.
I might go for a couple long drives on my days off before my upcoming training.

All I was able to accomplish on the way home was a "spirited" 5-60mph test (maybe half throttle). I was reminded just how quickly boost gets lost when I took my time shifting (I have the manual trans); there's a lot of lag in the next gear until boost builds again. You have to clutch in + shift + clutch out very quickly to minimize boost loss. (That's pretty standard behavior for a manual turbo car, but having spent the last 3 years in an automatic Z4, I have to get used to it.)

But this car really sounds like a beast in Sport Plus engine mode. I'm happy with it.

I can only drive in sport plus (unless it’s raining) it feels too slow otherwise. Yeah this is my first turbo manual car….definitely different. I find I have to shift to first sooner then in naturally aspirated engines for one thing. And I’m with you, haven’t figured out the turbo lag/boost quite yet. At full throttle no problem.

Sometimes I short-shift first gear around 1.5K RPM. First gear is so tall that if you go too high on the revs, the RPM drop to second gear is drastic and it seems like you wait forever for the revs to drop.

Something else I caught myself doing was not quite waiting for the clutch pedal to fully depress before shifting. So, I have been training myself to fully clutch in and then shift and my shifts have been smoother.

I don't think there's a good way to avoid losing all the boost around town if you're just trying to drive normally. Then again, there's no real need for maintaining boost between shifts if you're driving normally.

This wont prevent you from "losing boost" but a good intake and removing the restrictive midpipe will certainly allow the turbo to spool a little better. Might make it feel a tad peppier for you manual trans guys.

My Mk7 GTI is manual trans with a slightly bigger turbo, I almost never get into boost when just cruising around town unless I really put my foot into it. I kinda like that though, its like an on/off switch between a normal car and blowing the tires off haha

The part of my car y'all really want to see

You should get a petition going to ask BMW to sell the M3 Touring in NA. I'd sign it!

I guess the M5 touring is right? I’ve never been a fan of them but I know so many love them.

Dude stop upgrading your car and start driving lol 😂 but I agree about the grill switch being more exposed I’ve seen one similar to yours in person and I was thinking it’s just asking for a piece of tire rubber or rock etc .
