As for driving it, upgrading the exhaust helped a bunch with the enjoyment. Makes the spirited drives way more fun.

Coming from a 6spd F87 M2C, I do feel it was more enjoyable and I do miss it. The G80 is incredibly capable though, sometimes I wish I would have gotten the manual. Being in Chicago, I wanted the xdrive for winter. It does get boring at times. I'm not a big fan of its size, not so much the weight, but its size in general. I went from E46 M3 —> F87 M2C —- G80 M3, so the size and wheelbase was the biggest adjustment for me.

I thought G80 would be my forever car, but I think if they come out with a G87 M2CS, that will be most likely what I'll get next.... or look at some 718 Caymans, those GT4s are still way over sticker though...
Yea I totally get what your saying.
Having any of those cars along with the G80 is perfect. I agree they don’t fill the void of each other.

I thought we were talking about the g80.

I don’t know anything about the g87. I don’t like it but that’s my opinion. Too small and it looks ugly and the g80 cars aren’t exactly the best looking as it is.

If I was in the market for a G8x again it certainly wouldn’t be a g87, not a g82. I would get the g80 time and time again.

I have an X drive. For a short time I was feeling like it grips too well to be fun and dangerous feeling like my F80 was. Then I remembered I could turn mine into RWD. That brought back all the fun and dangerous feelings I was missing...lol.

I too have an S58/S54 combo and I agree with yousef 100%. I got my G80 7 mos ago and I'm about to pass 12k miles. I've owned my e46 for 11 years.

The G80 Comp is an absolute monster on full kill - it's literally ridiculous. I could never get bored of this car.

It’s modern, comfortable, and with a little squeeze of the pedal it will rip your face off. It doesn’t make the noises of the high-revving engines of the past, but my s58 is making about 3x the torque of my s54, and that’s been a lot of lot of fun in a different way. A little variety never hurts. Whether you can embrace something state-of-the-art and have fun with it is up to the individual I suppose. I’ve had a hell of a time tuning and watching the ET’s fall. It’s been a riot for me and my kids lol

Progress and technology are a blessing and a curse. Sports cars have gotten so good that we can't enjoy them on public roads, except in short controlled bursts when we're (mostly) sure no cops are watching. Doing 120 mph in an M isn't a big deal to us. But jeez to a cop, it's like you just crucified his lord.

All cars have gotten better too. I see piece of sh*t cars weaving in and out of traffic, cutting up, all the time. Used to be you'd only see sports cars doing that.

Sports cars always used to be faster (more acceleration) than other cars, but that's changing - at least below, say, 70 mph.

I'm not sure where this is all leading. A 0-60 of 2.5 seconds is enough. Faster than that? Does it even matter? Is it even safe?

What worries me the most is the proliferation of speed cameras.

How do we get more driving enjoyment out of cars that are so technically good? Arguably by removing some of that tech. Maybe the S58 needs a "Reduce engine power" option to 300 HP, which would give us a few more seconds at wide-open throttle.

I have been starting to see this perspective recently. Primarily because I work from home and am not forced to drive. Over the last couple of weeks, there have been some errands that forced me to drive in beltway/DC traffic. Just today I was thinking that if I had a commute every day I would find driving my M4 frustrating for everything you describe above. I was getting frustrated with not only the traffic but it also seems like everyone is in competition with me. Passing the M4 or beating me to the next light is some sort of small victory to an otherwise crappy day. I also tried using the traffic assist, but it left too much of a gap between the car in front, inviting all the aggressive drivers to get in front of me. For those of you who daily this car in traffic, how do you keep your patience and sanity?

I haven’t had mine that long, but the car is just damn beautiful alone. I take a lot of enjoyment out of that fact even when not pushing it.

I did get Atlantis Metallic though, and that certainly helps. I love looking at it from behind with those big hips and that color. It’s different in different lighting.

Although, sometimes lol… sometimes the exhaust does seem a little large from the back ha ha, but I don’t mind.

I think I get as much enjoyment from seeing it as I do driving it.
GR Yaris is to ROW what the GR Corolla is in the US. If you are not familiar, search it up.

Ahh, ok thanks for clarifying that.
I see.
Not a normal Yaris.

I do remember this now, people reviewing the Yaris better, but it is a tad slower no?

I originally ordered a 23 G80 Competition RWD. I ended up borrowing my friend’s G80 Comp for a few days to see how I liked it. Although insanely fast, I felt it was pretty unusable me for my daily needs as I would never be able to push it to its limit to where I could enjoy it without reaching dangerous speeds.

I ended up switching my build to a 6 speed and have no regrets. Although it is down on power and torque, to me it is a way better driving experience.

like others said, most modern cars have gotten so fast with limits so high they feel absolutely boring at normal traffic speeds. if you drive the g80 at 70-80mph on the highway, it really isn't much different from a base 3 series. in fact the ride is probably worse and that pothole hits alot harder.

of course when the road does open up or you have time for the canyons/backroads/track. it feels in its element. but its not going to be as nice as purpose built cayman or emira in those situations.

only solution is getting separate cars for different roles.

One of the reasons I went with an AWE Track is nothing multiples 'fun' driving like hearing the performance sound while doing it. If I drive into town, I still will hit it now and again. On the empty roads east of here, I drive it like it was intended to be driven. And the sound keeps getting better as the exhaust seasons. A/S tires this week will make it a 12 month, sunny but any temp, driver. And the colder the air, the more power--a side benefit.

No, I don't get bored, because just being in my G82 is a memorable experience for me, since I personally consider it "rolling art".

And then when I arrive at my destination (like the grocery store, I take mine everywhere to do mundane tasks), there's nothing like getting out of it, and looking back and being impressed. And then when I come out of the store and walk to my car, I get to stare at all of its angles all over again. And no, it never gets old to me...I'm never "bored" by it. I think it's safe to say that simply based on the design of this car, it wasn't developed to be "monotonous".

I spend a fair amount of time in my G82 cruising around with the flow of traffic. And I love being in it, it never gets old to me. But I do love the sheer art of driving, even at the speed limit.

I also attend high-speed rallies with friends and other enthusiasts throughout the year (e.g. my G82 has already attended 2 BMW Tail of the Dragon events, and I just attended a mountain rally a few weekends ago). And in these situations is where the G82's abilities are showcased. It's sooo fast, and has a lot of grip...but it's carrying some serious weight with these elevated speeds, so you can't go absolutely nuts as if you were on a track. So in corners, it's mostly slow in, and then you can feed in a lot of throttle in the middle of the turn (thus, fast out!).

And for many of us, that's why we mod our cars, to enhance the overall experience, thus most of us with modded cars never get bored. We're always looking at our own personal masterpieces.
