Found the limits of the clutch
I knew it would be sooner or later the clutch would start slipping, car has 7300 miles and at least 5 k of those have been over 600whp, last night when I was messing with mdm mode the clutch started slipping @26 psi of boost, when it’s in map. 0,1 or two there’s no slippage
So anyone know a aftermarket clutch for these cars or I’m just gonna have to try and get it replaced under warranty some how |

I'm genuinely curious to see if BMW will reject warranty work on your clutch. Obviously you'll remove the JB4 prior to taking it in, but I wonder if they'll dig a bit deeper and find history of higher boost targets which indicate a piggyback, thus absolving them of any warranty work requirements.
And I personally haven't heard of any aftermarket clutches yet. Perhaps after the DME is more widely unlocked and there's more development on the car.

It's my biggest concern to tune my car. Piggyback flashes are recorded in the system and I'm curious to see how BMW will respond to this. Subscribed to the thread

Why do you think this should be covered under warranty?

I thought it was either a piggyback (jb4) or a reflash (bm3). Is JB4 doing a reflash now or are piggyback tunes leaving a recording in the system now!?

Over 600whp seems likely. That's a ton of power. I can't imagine what that feels like when you're power shifting through gears at WOT. Also, if it feels fine in the other maps, why not leave it there? Isn't it going to get problems again with a new OEM clutch anyways? Lastly, are you doing any aggressive launches or burnouts with the car? 1st to 2nds? Maybe those trigger it's decay even further

You aren't gonna get a clutch replaced under warranty for two reasons, 1.) Your running bolt ons and e85, pushing way more power then that clutch was meant for, hell BMW said they didn't have a manual competition model because the tranny couldn't handle it 2.) even in normal circumstances a clutch isn't replaced under warranty as it's considered a "wear" item. |

The JB4 is a piggyback tune. I believe the racechip is as well. With these tunes, it's basically overriding the factory computer and lying to it to force it to push numbers and extra power that it wouldn't normally push otherwise. I could be butchering this explanation but this is how I understand it currently. The point to my rambling is that with the piggyback tunes, you're not actually "reflashing" the computer of the car, you're overriding it. Since you're not reflashing it, it won't leave any imprints in the system. A reflash tune where you unlock the ECU like a BM3 tune or EcuTek, will leave an imprint. As long as you disconnect it properly you should be fine. There's no way of tracing it. I'm sure people get bad issues with their cars, take the tune off, let the codes pop up immediately again and go straight to the dealer without putting 100-200 miles on it and they're clear. I think you'd be fine.

@6speed_M2 Did a bit more search into this topic and found this post on Audi/VW forum. https://www.golfgtiforum.co.uk/index.php?topic=280858.0
Looks like the system scan does tell a piggyback now by logging the controller type since 2017. Can't imagine BMW not having it at this point. My friend literally brought his car in for a tire swap (race chip disconnected) last month and the dealer told him the system scan flagged his car and dealer couldn't do anything about it. |

There's a million threads about turning and warranty, let's not make this one of them. Lets make this the first aftermarket clutch solution thread. K, thanks.

I highly doubt BMW would replace a clutch under warranty unless another failed component was the cause of the clutch failing. I think pushing the issue and trying to get something that usually is considered a wear item might be opening Pandora's box that can not be closed. They will most likely flag the car. Significantly decreasing the value of that car. While piggy backs are a grey area on what BMW can actually tell when pulling the data, higher than factory boost pressures might lead them to believe the car did have one on it.

Stock power level it doesn't slip right, so the dealer wont be able to replicate the slipping at this point.
I'd reach out to the big clutch companies, hopefully they are working on a clutch. |

What makes you think BMW will replace the clutch under warranty? I have had a manual car from various different manufacturers in the past, and they all considered it as a wear and tear item. They will not replace it under warranty. BMW does include the clutch replacement in their extended warranty packages, if you didn't purchase it, you're out of luck. With only 7k miles, I'm sure BMW will investigate how the clutch got worn out so fast. Once they start pulling logs, you'll be screwed and your car will get flagged. Gotta pay to play. |

Its all dependent on the manufacture. I've worked for many. BMW was one of the strictest as far as covering something like a clutch. Just about all cases of something like this were a good will repair to essentially shut the customer up.
