My f80 doesn't have rear armrest. It's one of those things you realize after you get the car. I don't think any f80 has the rear rest or the middle folding down. Looking at pictures, I don't think the G80 has it either.

I used to put my skis down the middle in my old f30 335 and do miss it a lot on the m3. The 60/40 split is really inconvenient on the Ms

That's charitable of you. But I guarantee you the real reason is cost savings.
I've notice this trend with all new BMWs since 2008, that this trunk pass through/ rear armrest is only eliminated in US-spec vehicles, even the top-tier versions that cross 100k.

If I had to make an educated guess, the US being a litigious country that it is, this option is omitted to reduce the chance of an infant or small child from crawling into the trunk, from the rear pass-through.

There is no specific oversight on this but just BMW erring on the side of safety.

Every US-spec vehicle made since September 1, 2001, even a 2 million dollar Bugatti, are required to have some sort of internal trunk release latch. The most common type is a T-shaped glow-in-the-dark emergency release. This requirement is only mandated in the US and not the ROW. So, regulators here are serious about this potential hazard.

BTW, our neighbors in Canada gets the rear armrest/ pass-through, so this leads to believe my assumption is accurate and it's not a cost-saving or performance measure.

Another fun fact is that US-spec vehicles are the only BMWs that doesn't have a "deadlock" (S8TGA Thiefproofing device), where when the vehicle is completely powered off and locked, the interior unlock button does not function, trapping any occupants inside but reducing possible vehicle theft. Once again, this is not exactly a requirement in the US but BMW just saving themselves from a potential lawsuit.

https://www.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh...php?p=25595520
My G01 X3 M40i and G05 X5 50i both had rear seat arm rests. MSRP ranged from $69,320-$99,255 for those two SUV's so maybe it's only on their cars?

Side note: yes I remember the sticker price of all the cars I've purchased

Personally I don't care if it had a rear armrest or not, no one ever sits back there. I have my wife or someone else up front, no kids. The rear seats on the G8X aren't even heated so it's not like rear passengers are the focus here.

I get that BMW has it in other markets, they also offer Tartufo for the bucket seats in other places. Would I like to have options not available in the US, of course. I don't think it's a huge deal though
The rear seats are not heated? I thought I saw buttons in the back for heated rear seats. That's kind of shameful. Even the hellcat had that as standard options. Oh well.

Oops, I guess my earlier assumption was incorrect about why the rear center armrest/ pass through was being omitted on some US-spec vehicles due to potential liability reasons.

Apparently, the new US-spec M240i does indeed have a 40/20/40 split rear seat, with an armrest/pass through. So, it can't be for safety reasons, across the board, as I originally hypothesized.

So, is either BMW had a change of heart and just now started adding this feature on their US-bound coupes or there is deeper reasoning behind why it is not offered on some models. However, I sincerely doubt it was due to some of cost-cutting or performance decision.

Anyways, I guess we're back to square one in figuring out this mystery.

Only in certain markets. It's not an option in the US.

I don't know why would I need an armrest at the back... no body sitting at the back would need one, especially on a two door car

I forgot to reply earlier, they're definitely not heated and I have all of the boxes ticked outside of CCB's on my car.

my kids ride with me in my M4 all the time and i wish there was a center arm rest with cup holders. the M4 does have some weird storage bins on the outside of the seats but doesn't quite fit their water bottles

Its odd how the different regions decide what to make available, here in Australia we have the option for heated rear seats, even though it barely ever gets to freezing.

Yeah, I don't get it. Why can't BMWUSA make things like this an option? Some people would be glad to pay for it, and others won't. Seems like an easy way to pad profits.

What are the buttons on 3:42. They're ventilated seats perhaps?

Edit:
I think I found it. Apparently it's standard in Europe but not even available as an option in the us. What strange thing.

Btw - stop posting all those sexy pics of your car. Making me doubt my FDG choice lol.

Definitely cheaper and probably easier to take care of lol. I'm a week 5 build. I don't want to mess with it anymore. I do kind of have semi regrets not getting the carbon bucket seats but I don't want any more delays. I plan to use this car for get away weekends with my wife quite often and I don't want her to hate me lol.

I expected my wife to hate the seats upon first sight and then trying to sit in them. After the first time she sat in the seat I asked her how she liked them and she was a fan. She likes how low they can sit how she just feels planted in them. Shockingly she hasn't even complained once about having to get in or out of them as well.

Bucket seats are awesome but one should make sure they can accommodate their physique.

I'm fitted guy (5-8, 165lb) so I know I would fit in them just fine. It's more so my back always had hated me from my younger years of deadlifting 450-500 pounds which was moronic.

I'm not quite sure how my wife would like it on a 4-8 hour trips for our getaways or my back. So I took the safer option. However, I love how slim and fitted those carbon seats looks.
