Dealer Rim Damage

Need some opinions on this. Last fall i had a screw in one of my summer tires that couldn't be patched. When i went for my break in service i had them replace the summer tire, store my summers and put my winters on.

I just recently had my summers put back on but never noticed that the dealer scuffed my rim with the tire machine when they replaced the tire in the fall. I never noticed it because they put the tire into storage right away and it never went on the car. It's been about two weeks since I had them swap the tires back too before i noticed it.

What should my expectations be for them resolving this? I'm not really keen on having a rim repaired considering the car only had 2000km on it when the tire was replaced.

If you didn't notice it right away, you're going to have a hard time getting them to take responsibility. They probably have a guy that specializes in rim repair that can make it look like new for around $100 (cost me $80 to have mine done here, and it was far worse).

Two weeks after the fact, good luck getting them to do a thing for you. If they do it would be completely a good will gesture. I don’t think you should go in with any expectations at all and be happy if they do offer to repair it for you. Definitely not bad enough to warrant a full wheel replacement.

I wouldn’t ask for it for free. I would ask if they have a recommended guy that can do a good job at a reasonable price.

Of course you should ask to have them repair at no charge it if they did it. That scratch is pretty obviously from taking the tire on and off the wheel. Because it’s been two weeks, you should temper your expectations, however. This is why I have a second set of wheels for winter. You want to avoid putting tires on an off the wheel as much as possible. Just be sincere and polite. If the dealer is smart, they’d realize they probably did it and it’s worth the minuscule effort on their part to keep a customer happy. They should also look into who did the work so they don’t screw anyone else’s wheel up.

I’m not fully tracking your story. If the scratch occured in the fall when they were taking summers and putting winters, how did you not see that if you drove on same rims?

Anyways, talk to them and see what they say, you might get surprised. I once had a situation where I swapped from summers to winters and then when I came back in the spring to install the summers to back, we discovered that one of the tires had sidewall cut from removal in the fall. I did not see the damage originally as tires were bagged and put in my trunk, then I simply stored them in my garage and never unwrapped or looked over. The tire shop took full responsibility, bought me a new tire and didn’t charge for seasonal tire swap.

They replaced the tire on the summers and then immediately stored them in October. I got the car back with winters at that appt in October. Just had the summers put back on and noticed it. Sort of similar to what happened with you.

I spoke to them and they told me to send photos because tire machine damage is a lot different than a curbed rim. She's going to talk to the Service Manager (who's always treated me well) and get back to me. I mean it was obviously them. My car hasn't come close to a curb, or a bad pothole, I don't drive the car a lot, its relatively babied and that looks nothing like curb rash damage anyway.

Hopefully they can match the paint color and finish on the repair. That's all I'm really concerned about to be honest.
