To loud at WOT cattless dp and single mid pipe.

Crazy, I'm getting old lol. Recently picked up a used 2022 M3 and previous owner did catless dp's and single mid pipe (no tune). I like the sound and its nice having control over the exhaust flaps with the buttons. It sound awesome in sport or sport plus as well but once you go WOT holy hell does it howl and is really loud lol. Surprisingly the smell isn't that bad for being cat less which is really surprising. Anyway I'm wondering what I can do to make it quiet again without going crazy on a whole new exhaust system. Unfortunately we don't have the stock parts from the original owner. I'm wondering how much the mid pipes vs the dp's that are making it so loud or which I should replace? Any suggestions are more than welcome. Thank you in advanced.

Its the DP's. Get some stock ones and put them back on. It will tame it.

Right on! I would if I had them and I know its going to cost an arm and a leg for OEM ones, is there an aftermarket catted downpipe that will not through a check engine light?

And I'm assuming its safe to say the bassy tone sound is coming from the single mid pipe?

Check the member marketplace for a set. That or look for some SPORT cats. Do you have a check engine light on now with your catless DP's?

Correct, check engine codes are cat efficient codes at the moment. Had her on the lift and they are straight piped, can't see the make/brand. The mid pipe is Valve tronic.

I think active autowerke offers sport cats. Id look into those. Or jump into the member marketplace. People are selling OEM ones all the time in there.

This member asked for some and many people had some to offer.

+1 for the Active Autowerke catted. It tames the sound from the catless setup but keeps it aggressive. Also no check engine light.

Interesting, the downpipes in that photo are actually mine, in fact I took that photo in my living room.

Those are actually 200 cell Topgear Eurosports downpipes in that photo - work great, still on my car

I admit, I stole the pics off this forum to show the OP his options. I did not know those where not active brand though. Thank you for the clarification.

Active Autowerke or ApexBuilt both use GESI Catted Downpipes which are the top quality and no CEL guarantee cats.

I have ApexBuilt ones on my car and they have been perfect.

Interesting that everyone is blaming the DPs. I have DPs only on my X4M and I can barely tell the difference in sound.

I’m curious does your setup add any drone in comfort mode valves closed at any rpm? Also maybe try adding back the secondary cats only. That would seem like a sweet spot to me.

I’m actually thinking of doing catless downpipes, leave on secondary cats and delete only 1 resonator. Probably just the first one, as the secondary resonator has the xpipe.

its amazingly quiet when you want it to be there is no drone at all. I'm still blown away how quiet and loud it can be depending how hard your on the pedal. Have a feeling it has to do with the valved exhaust BMW did, they are closing the flaps even though your in sport + etc.

is that all that is on the exhaust? The catless dp with a single mid pipe with stock cat back sounds like at trumpet exploding from an elephant stepping on it.

Man, that description makes me want to get your setup. I have Valvetronic + MPE + vsc and I want more

I have tried Valvetronic + stock backbox + oem valve control and couldn't hear anything even with pedal to the metal.

Yeah its all in the dp's I'm assuming its safe to say. My last two s55 exhaust setups I did resonated DP's and then Catted. The catted was so much quieter. Catless is pretty much nasty, personally not my liking though. Let me know if you want to switch dp's

Yes, that's all I have.

Great description of the sound btw.

its so strange of an exhaust sound to me. Its not consistent, meaning you can't hold an rpm range and have that sound tone/sound as it does per say when your under load. It has to be under load to get an enjoyable sound which imho sucks because you can not carry it as you drive along an over pass/bridge etc..., I don't want to be wot just to hear an echo. Hopefully that makes sense lol. Not sure if its all because of the valved exhaust flaps are closing on us once load is backed off? To me exhaust is everything when it comes to enjoyment with a car aside from power.
