Since the M4 existed was just this past generation, though. Not that much precedent. I completely agree with you, though, the E92 and E90 M3 were the same way. Before that, they were all the same, though the only M3 sedan BMW made before the E90 was the E36.

Yes, this isn't anything new as graphics aren't finalized yet until production stage. They've shown of prototype 8-series and X5's that show 7-series in the gauge cluster before.

I hadn't noticed the way the fender flare appears to end abruptly before the bottom of the bumper. It's going to be interesting to see how that looks from other angles.

Fender extensions ("wheel arch guards") as The New Normal ?

Wow, I totally missed this on the M5 LCI.

So these are only installed for certain regions then?

Most likely a legal requirement, in most places the wheels cannot extend out past the wheel arch.

I’m sure they’ll be easy to remove.

Not a fan, reminds me of the plastic cladding of an SUV.

For the M2 Competition and M2 CS: rolled out worldwide for homologation reasons.

8. The new wheel arch stripes we all have seen are there because of homologation guidelines. New rules have been set across the world and they are installed because else the cars are illegal in many countries. The arches cover all the new guidelines across all the countries.

Those 70 countries are all enforcing different regulations. There is not one common rule or set up! Therefore some gandalf at BMW came up with one solution to rule them all.
Removal is easy. It is one screw and they are off. They are not integrated as far as I heard into the existing wheel arches.
Hence my guess: also the G80 M3 and G82 M4 will feature fender extensions ("wheel arch guards").

I honestly wouldn't mind them if they were paint matched to the body a la X5 M.

Agree, i'm more not a fan of the fact that they are just plain black unpainted plastic, would look much better and not noticeable if in color.

The M3/M4 will share all engine parts including cooling etc. They wouldn't develop two different cars with two different grills, coolers, heat exchanger etc.

M3, M4 will share the frontend as you can see well on the latest M3 test vehicles.

Don't hold your breath!

You can clearly see the Isle of Man Green if you look at the PDC sensor. It seems to be a new version of the glorious "evergreen" paint made at the end of the 90's.

The same grill as the G20 would have done the trick, with a little M tinkering.

Did no one watch the recent video put out by BMW in making of the M4? They clearly state that they wanted the 4 to stand out from the 3 and were focusing talking about the grill...they will be different.
